Hello just trying to get some input on the Arctic Cat D Drive. I have never had a sled with it before and am looking at buying a sled with it. The sled only has 996miles on it. Are they good/bad, easy to work on???? Are they easy to change lube on???

What are the real differences with the D Drive over the chain drives??? (besides the obvious)

Thanks for any and all input.

the 05 06 dd is great verry ez to work on I would prob replace the 5 pinion planetary at 2300mi or so with the BDX planetary.
I pulled my DD every yr to clean inspect etc etc you can pull out a dd in less than 15min put back in about the same
you can swap a track on DD sleds in under 1hr buy your self
the 07 08 DD were prob units 09 and up are more or less the same as the 05 06 dd.
if you only want to change lube they have a plug but it is so ezto pull out and pull apart I always went that way

The number one thing with dd is maintenance!!! Change the lube every 500 miles and you should never have a problem with it. As ezra stated it is easy to pull. Best to pull it and open it up at maintenance time so you can inspect. If you do it this way you will catch any problems before they become catastrophic.

So is there any tricks or things I should know about when changing the oil in the D Drive? What type of oil should I use in it? Are there any specific things I should look for when changing the oil?

Thanks for the help!

well Like stated above pull it out quick ez job split the case the 5 pinion planetary is the week spot to look over carefully.
I think it is 1/3 cup but cant remember I would just buy the dd fluid Chang kit for your yr it is pre measured.
then dump it in a measuring cup see how much is in it for future use then you van buy the big bottles of dd fluid for cheaper.
you will need a tube of permatex. that is the only gasket the dd has is pematex

The newer DD do have a gasket now. I think 09 and up. You can reuse it several times if your careful about it.

I was checking out the pics on the link above and was wondering if you really have to pull the whole case out to split it open. I was thinking of pullin mine from my '08. It looks like I could just remove the bolt at the brake rotor, I have the short bolt deep in the hollow drive shaft, and remove the torx bolts on the case cover to open it up. Has anyone here done it this way? If you pull the whole case, what's supporting the driveshaft at the PTO side? Looks like it would be a pain in the a$$ to get it back in.

it is not a pain to put back in just hold up shaft push in drive.
I have just pulled cover with sled on its side I thought is was more of a pita than pulling drive

I've got over 4,000 on my 06 Crossfire, no issues. I flush & fill each season right on the sled.-Mezz

Do you have to loosen the track to pull the whole case out? I would think so.

depends on the sled I guess I run over well 1 in of sag in my tracks so no but on a f with picks and a rubber band tight track I would say yes.
only thing that kinda sucks the first time is getting speed sensor wire out of the foot well with some slack to unplug it but still no big thing.
all I can say is bring me a DD cat and I can swap out tracks in just under 1 hr buy my self' and you need to pull the DD to swap out a track the ez way
