Madison For a Day

Supposed to be a nice day on Sunday. Getting out of the house and heading to Madison with my family to celebrate my wife's 50th Birthday. Just a day of casual time downtown, going by the Capital, walking down State Street, plan to eat at Dottys and who knows where else we'll end up. Not doing anything too active or strenuous, just going to be an easy going day enjoying some family time window shopping, eating, sitting around people watching and soaking up some springtime sun. Anyone have some suggestions of things we "must" do?

put on a scott walker rocks t shirt and enjoy the dirty looks

Hoping to find a set to buy for the entire family to wear! Somehow I doubt they sell them at the UW Bookstore.

Leaving in a few hours, any last minute ideas?

Gary, I'd skip Dotty's (overrated in my opinion) and go down to Nitty Gritty or the Old Fashion which is on the square. If you're coming down from the Capital onto State Street Paul's is a neat place to visit as it has a huge Oak Tree in it. Oh yea, they are having a "Welcome Home" event at the Kohl Center for the BB teams starting at 3pm so the campus will be a mess I'm sure so better get here early. You could always walk over to the Monona Terrance and look out over Lake Menona.

Good Luck!

Well it was a great day! Thanks to harski for the help with parking, places to eat, and the tip on the "Welcome Home" event. Thought of Ezra as the first shop we stopped in had a "Protest" table front and center as you walked in. Check out the buttons and book in the pic below. Then there were a few "smoke" shops and other things around, but over all a good day. Here is a shot of the Birthday girl with the big birthday sundae at Nitty Gritty, and one as we got back to the Capital. A lot of walking, but we survived and had a good time.
