The order of installation is : gasket, plastic spacer, gasket, steal spacer, gasket, carburetor.
In other words, the steal spacer is sandwiched between 2 gaskets, with the gap being an engineered "leak" in the sealing surface.
Very odd indeed! I'm wondering if this particular carb which is apparently not stock equipment, has a lesser cfm rating and the gap is to provide extra air???
