I was in Hurley this past weekend visiting family, on the way to breakfast (not on the sled) and seen ambulance going down the road, stopped at trail 2 and 9th St. That is two stop signs back west from Larry’s. The info I got, sled was doing 60 mph and blew the stop sign, a municipality sand truck was putting sand down and the sled ran the stop sign right into the truck. He was killed instantly. Decapitated is the rumor. His friends said he never stopped. I heard he was from Elgin Illinois, 38 with 3 kids. That I don’t know for sure. Anyone else here or know of anything. Sad thing this happened. I just like to pass along that we all like to ride, but be smart it’s only a hobby, no need to die on a trip with your family or friends. IT’S NOT WOTH IT. RIDE SAFE AND SMART, is it really worth that extra beer or shot to have a loss in your family !No dad for the kids to come home too, lose your friend, dad, brother, husband, cousin to something that can be avoidable with some safe riding practices and commons sense. My condolences go out to the family and friends of this snowmobiler.

I just meant in general! Not saying it he was or wasn’t. It was a statement to maybe help some, understand or think next time! **** like this make me think every time out on the bike or sled! My family and friends mean more to mean than one more beer. Even WITHOUT DRINKING!

I know, every time I see the news and soldiers are killed, I think of the families and the children not having their mom or dad. My girls, I go on a 4 day trip or out plowing for the night she’s in the window waiting for me. It kills her when I’m gone! And to see that makes that kind of news more heart wrenching to take!

Not a drinking lecture, just my opinion. Ya know what they opinions are like @ssholes everyone has one! Plus it was just to maybe help, even just one person says to themselves, Ya Know I don't need that one ! Relax and enjoy the weather and don't look to dissect every word on someone post. I'll read posts on this site and some just like to tear them down, just like the media! I guess it’s the society we now live in.

Lovemydobe, sorry for your loss, my prayers to you and your family and friends .

: a formal reproof

I really do understand your point is just about safety...but I think what I'm feeling - maybe others as well? - is that to mention anything other than condolences is just a little inappropriate and insensitive. There's a time and place to discuss safety. To lecture (2) regarding safety when we should be thinking of this husband, father, friend, son and brother, who maybe none of us know personally but we ALL know as a snowmobiling community, breeds anger when all we should be feeling is the loss of this man for all who knew and loved him.

Could have been a mechanical problem that he couldn't react quick enough to....I don't suppose we'll ever really know. In any case, it sucks bigtime for all friends and family.
