March riding

Hey, not sure where to ask this question. Thought this was a good start. Wondering what the coditions are like in the U.P. around mid March. Are the trails still being groomed? How is the traffic usually?

Thanks in advance

Groomers still going, unless temps prohibit. Conditions are generally still good. Traffic volume is usually down a little bit.
If possible ride Tues to Fri, for best trail conditions

March riding anywhere including the UP can be tricky. The sun is high in the sky now and only burns more of the trails as we get into March. The UP typically gets the most snow but I don't think you can say that this year. My advice is look at the snow depth charts and watch the trail reports for who's riding and where. I have a place in Northern Wisconsin near the UP border and don't schedule any trips after the end of February. Also lots of places close in March if there is not good snow and now with COVID its anybody's guess who will be open and who in March.

Some of my best rides have been in March. Sometimes it's a little sketchy getting in and out of towns to get gas, but, a lot less traffic, and the trails are usually mint!

I agree with Skylar. The March rides in the UP have been phenomenal. The times I went though, they had 200 +" of snow those years. So there was an excellent base on the trails.

Who knows this year ask when close to your date. I was there all last week but no trail report because conditions were changing each day. Just that kind of season

Twenty years ago, my son's college spring break was mid March, we rode in the UP all four years. Very good riding too! Many fantastic pics, and memories.

It changes year to year. I’ve ridden in April many years and some years it’s shot by end of February.

All I can think about is riding on mashed potatoes with this question. In fact it’s 40 here so I’m going for a rip around the field on my kids sled!
