Just wondering if anyone ran Marquette to Big Bay after the little storm went through. Wondered how the trail was...how much mud.

A friend and I wanted to try and make a run towards Big Bay today. We headed west on trail 8 from the Marquette business district. Snow was pretty good until we got to Ishpeming. There were many thin areas in town and on both the east and west outskirts, with dirt and rocks to be seen and heard.

Once outside Ishpeming (still on trail 8), the trails were excellent....Flat and smooth with plenty of snow. The swampy and open field areas en route to trail 5 were rough and and dirty though. Luckily they are relatively small sections.

When we got to trail 5, it had not been groomed at all. I'm sure they'll be working on it soon but it was a disappointment because there is a lot of untouched snow to work with up that way and trail 5 is a great ride.

****We do have snow and it is definitely rideable. Conditions vary greatly though and it's still early conditions (dirt, thin areas, and rocks is not uncommon). The groomers only have so much to work with at this point. The outlook for more snow in the next week is promising. If you're looking for great riding, it's not here....yet, but you can ride!**

The Big Bay 550 club groomed trail 14 to Marquette the other night. They are calling it fair condition, if that helps you at all.

I rode trail 14 from County Rd 510 all the way to Big Bay today. It is groomed and most of it is in great condition. There is a total of about 4 miles between the 2 really high terrain areas that was kinda rough (big rocks and boulders) just not enough snow to fill in the gaps between when it was groomed.
I rode trail 5 back to trail 8 west of Ishpeming and then 8 home to Negaunee.
Trail 5 was groomed and in good shape. A couple frozen wet spots that were a little rough but not as bad as what I found on trail 14.
Trail 8 was groomed and flat. A few thin spots but good overall.
Passed groomer just west of country village spur headed west at about 630pm tonight.

First two pictures are from powerline between North Rd (Negaunee TWP) and CR 510. Last picture was along trail 14 where it comes back out onto CR 510.

Thanks for the info mride, was looking to do a solo Ishpeming 8->5-> silve lake basin run saturday morning, sounds like it will be good enough. Nice pictures, I'd recognize those ice falls on 510 anyday! I'll dig up the pictures that we have by them later perhaps.
