Yes there is some good riding in the McHenry area, several long stretches of farmland and woods. And you can take the trails north towards Johnsburg (head east on Chapel Hill rd) and get on the chain o lakes. Great time hitting the Rusty Nail or Half times in Johnsburg, great food, cheap beer specials and hot bartenders....

I rode the trails there before they were fine. We parked at the harley dealer on 47 in woodstock. We just took off and rode.

A little...the thing i miss the most was riding The forest Preserves/trails, the Chain and going up river with the guys(a couple girls too). Even though conditions were marginal most times. I would NEVER move back, just visit. Next year i will be able to trailer down and give Jr a chance too ride with his friends too............Trail maps are at most gas stations, taverns or Novotnys Arctic cat on the trail in Johnsburg...You can park your trailer there too.

Fun

went out there today put on about 75 miles .It was cool i liked the trail system ,but it's in need of a grooming .The drifts are forming 4' holes a in some spots (bid -SS BUMPS).It was still fun though the crew and i will be back fo sho!!! ALSO BE WARE OF DNR ALL OVER THE PLACE .WE GOT CARDED TWICE IN 3 MILES!!!!

We got carded also....and tickets. I have a place in Phelps, I register my sleds in WI and I would be more then happy to buy an Illinois trail pass for the 1 time is 5 years I would ride in Illinois, and I get a $120.00 ticket.

Yeah thats the downside of Illinois, The State is hurting real bad and they need alll the revenue they can get. Just last year my son was followed to our house and DNR gave me the ticket (He was under 16 ) because he rode within 10 feet of the road. 6 weeks later he takes a spin on some girls 80cc Predator at the neighbors and a Lake County Sheriff gives em a ticket........$212.00! After court costs..

ya trails have been pretty sweet. I dropped off at novotnys twice this week and plenty of snow. they are starting to get a little bumpy but still the best in years.

If you're a resident of IL you have to have your sled registered in IL to ride the trails. Otherwise, out-of-state residents can ride for free until April, 2011. Then the in-state registration increases to $30 for three years and out-of-staters have to buy a trail pass. But, who from outside of IL rides IL trails?
IL residents can not buy out-of-state trail permits if their sled is registered out-of-state after April. IL residents have to have an IL registration to ride the sled in IL. (I know, it sucks!)

What a load of crap, ILL residents must have their sleds registered in IL, Guess, I will drive over the border to go riding in my WI regisitered sleds this week.

6 bucks a year its not that exspensive

It's not the 6 dollars a year, it's the system when you try and register it, the red tape is ridiculous and it takes all winter to get your stickers, when I bought my 2011 in Wisconsin it had stickers on it when I left the dealer as WI has their ACT Together.

The only riding i've done in Illinois in the last 10 years is around my yard. So why register them for a once 1 10 years ride and I just switched all my sleds over in the last two years to WI.
