Mchenry Il trails???

It's not the 6 dollars a year, it's the system when you try and register it, the red tape is ridiculous and it takes all winter to get your stickers, when I bought my 2011 in Wisconsin it had stickers on it when I left the dealer as WI has their ACT Together.

The only riding i've done in Illinois in the last 10 years is around my yard. So why register them for a once 1 10 years ride and I just switched all my sleds over in the last two years to WI.

u dont have to have the stickers to ride all you need is the paper work to show the sleds is in process of being registered .i just went through it with dnr yesterday they where cool i have a newly purchased sled showed the paper work and no issues .

register it so you wont have issues when and if it snows here. i know its BS ,but for 18$ for 3 years its not worth dealing with for such a short riding season my .02

Nonresidents—As a nonresident, you may
operate your snowmobile in Wisconsin with your state’s current registration
as long as the decal or proof of registration is prominently displayed
and the snowmobile and the machine has not been in Wisconsin for
more than 15 consecutive days. The proof of registration from your
home state must be carried with you while riding and must be presented
to an enforcement officer when requested. However, you should be
aware that an out of state registered snowmobile that is in Wisconsin
for longer than 15 days must be registered in Wisconsin.

Doesn't this state if you your sled is stored in Wisconsin, or used in Wisconsin more than 2 weeks straight, you MUST have WI reg.? Do they want you to have both? Does this mean that you should change from IL to WI? All my friends have WI on their sleds, all IL residents, they have always been fine. They keep their sleds up by me, in WI, and only ride the chain in IL, so it is legitimately a long term WI sled.
I was stopped 3 times in one day by the same IL DNR officer. All because of the WI registration. A**holes. If it wasn't for the chain. I'd never set foot in that state.

X2 Legend 02. I didn't register my 06 ski-doo in Illinois because you need to submit both the sled serial number and the motor serial number to register. I could not find the motor serial number, so I registered in Wisconsin. So beware anyone going to register in Illinois, find your motor serial number.

I have 2 sleds both registered in Illinois and I do not recall submitting the engine serial numbers just the VIN number and the CC's. On the Illinois DNR web site to renew they don't ask as well, I just checked.

Illinios started the motor serial number requirement about three years ago. You now need it to register, not to renew. My 97 Yamaha has been registered in IL for about 10 years, and at the time they did not ask for the motor number, nor on the renews. MRSSKIDOO, where did you find your motor serial number?

Seems pretty simple if you are a resident in Illnoise and ride here you need to register otherwise don't ride here. Just because you mostly ride in Wisconney and wanna take one ride Illnoise don't unless you register here... Illnoise registration is a pretty simple form to fill out if you can't then don't ride here... Yes it does take a long time to get your stickers if you don't like to wait the don't register here... If yer a resident from Wisconney or some other state come ride for free here... as long as you have your states registration...

I went to Skidoo's website and had to look it up there through their "owners center" they have all operators guides available on line, here is the link to where my engine number is located.

Thanks for trying MRSSKIDOO. I called a few dealers and even Bombardier and they gave me some possible locations on the motor. Unfortuneatly, I would have to take apart the exhaust or other parts of the motor to see it, not guarenteeing the number would be there. For now I'm just gonna ride the Yamaha in Illinois when I can.

I don't know why I just thought of this but are the reg #'s supposed to be shown on the sled along with the sticker? I haven't added the reg #'s in years.

I know on my boat here in IL you have to show both the sticker and #'s

Wags, for a boat in Illinios you have to show registration numbers and a sticker. For a sled, you just need to show the sticker, no numbers.

lets see if i can explain this

if you are a out of state resident but your sled is kept in wis more than 14 consecutive days in wis you must register it in wis .. but you can live out of state when doing this.. but here's the techicanel catch, you must own property in wis to legally title ur sled or have "residence" (wis drivers lic showing address in wis) to"title" your sled there.. (or you have to own property in wis to title it there if you live out of state.) yes many don't do this but if the wisc dnr wants to get tuff they can dig and issue a ticket. and for insurance or accident's you could get caught..now if you live in 'il" but register your sled in wis and the dnr pulls you over and your drivers license reads "il", you will get a ticket. because you have to register your sled in "il" if you are a "il" resident and are riding your sled in "il" with a "il" drivers lic..regardless of your "wis" registration. in order to register your "wis " regirstered sled in il all you have to do is add a letter to the registration form stating your sled is kept in wis more than 14 days in "wis" and per there law it is registered there. but you want to register it to ride here..and you must show a copy of your wis registration/title of the sled for "il" to issue a sticker..the reason for part of the confusion is that "il" wants to make sure you arn't getting around paying tax's on the purchase of the sled new or used. the other part of the confusion comes because "il" actually issues a title to ur sled , but wis only issues a registration card. that has been part of the past problems with "il" because they didn't get that down state. and because they viewed the law, as a sled must have a "title" to register in il.(and collect taxes) they now seem to understand this and are issuing the $18 sticker (good for 3 years ) with out much problems any more. comes out to $6 per year. and belive it or not they can give you a ticket even riding in your own yard without registration. i know "il" sucks , but that"s the way it is. now as far as this "il" trail sticker, yes it has been talked about but there is no current bill or add on to a current bill in the assembly to address this idea. doesn't mean it wont happen but don't hold your breath. the other isssue is/or will be you might end up with a $35/50 per year trail pass fee like wis or mich. instead of just paying $18 every 3 years to ride and register in "il". hope this explains the issue, these facts are all from dealing with both il and wis depts regarding snowmobile registrations.

Do not tell them the price you paid for the sled either. I bought my sled in Wis. for 4100$ and told the lady that. She said are you sure that you paid that much? Your tax's will be 200$ or something like that, and she asked me again, are you sure you paid that much?
I said that I paid 410$ She said it's stupid what they are doing to the sledder's in IL.
I agree!
