Memorable trips

I was at my parents lake home on Memorial Day and looked at a bunch of old pictures, and found some of a great snowmobile trip we took out west in 1968. It was a few days before Easter and my parents had left a few sleds with someone they had met at the West Yellowstone roundup a few weeks earlier. My dad was a pilot so myself, my older brother, my dad, and Dave, the engineer at Viking at the time flew out to Livingston and were picked up by the guy who had the sleds. We drove to the 320 ranch south of Bozeman where the sleds were parked. We unloaded and rode them about a mile to a hunting cabin. we started the wood stove and went to bed. The next 3 days we rode the area just north of Yellowstone Park. Here are a couple of pictures of the cabin.

It was a great trip, we flew back to Grand Forks on Easter Sunday and when I went back to school after the Easter vacation with a suntan/sunburn nobody believed we were out snowmobiling.

Despite everything that has changed about the sport, some things stay the same (going west to hit the mountains). Pretty cool, thanks for sharing!!!

Xmas morning back in the early 2005ish? After we were done unwrapping presents and breakfast and all that, decided to take the sled out. Northern Wisconsin, nobody out, trails freshly groomed, spent hours just sledding around. Absolutely perfect time.

Bearrassler,

Man, those shots could have been used in a Viking brochure or snowgoer magazine at the time!
When I think of snowmobiling,...THAT is what I think of. The memories. That is what got us here today.
How cool is that. Thanks for scanning and sharing those photo's. What a Great experience and memory
that had to be. AWESOME!

I have so many stories,..
One quick one.

Since back in the late 60's/early 70's there were only a few "groomed" trails locally (even though the snowmobile
clubs had trails marked that today you would consider bar-bare-ick) (sp) We would get the sleds ready early
Saturday morning and trailer them to Crivitz for a day of riding.
Well, My dad gassed up my mom's 1970 mustang and started it up, had me take it for a lap around the house,
then he would be the "guide" as I drove it up on the tilt trailer, and then he would of course tilt it down, tie it down, and get ready for the next sled. So,... HIS sled was a 69 Mustang,.. without a battery for the electric start of course,... so,... he had to use a rope to pull start it. Well,... After it was all gassed up and ready to go,... I was there to give it some throttle,... and when he pulled on the rope,... Vvvvvrooom! up AND over the snowbank
IN REVERSE it went! If video camera's were available back then,... it would have been PRICELESS!
I sat there with it idling,...HE stood there in disbelief with the rope in his hand staring,... and no one said a word.
for what seemed minutes,.... Then we both laughed. He shut the sled off, wound the rope the CORRECT way,..
ran it up on the trailer,... and I probably had to go change my pants!
Ah,...
Memories!
:)

It does look like a Viking brochure. Pretty amazing experience for a young lad (or even an old lad).

I have to think about this one a little - so many good trips. Guess I'll have to pick one and dig up some photos.
