Mercer Wisconsin area

Trails in Iron County and Vilas County are still closed. They got plenty of snow, but the wet areas just haven't set up yet. I'm in Manotiwish Waters right now and we have to trailer to the UP to find open trails.

I know everyone is anxiously waiting to hear of snowmobile trail openings. We just go word that trail 17, 15 – 15A, 8 – 8A, 11A, 77 – 2A, 13C, 13 from 77 south to Island Lake Road are open as of today. All other trails remain closed at this time, but they are working on them and will keep you updated. CAUTION: Swamp areas are not frozen, so please stay only on the trails that are open. More snow is in the forecast for tonight, so it shouldn't be long. Have a great week!

The report is not every other day. And I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually rode the area

True dat.

I gave up on snowtracks this year as it is a dinosaur, no daily updates in most areas. Just a few years ago it was the best updating websites for where I generally ride, too bad must look at multiple sites now to get a clearer picture of what is going on.
Maybe it is a reflection of responsible parties changing; Gogebic trail authority has a new name, Munising is going through change and It must boil down to lack of volunteerism.

I agree. You know it is a light snow year when the updates hardly come but once a week in some areas if not at all. But, between the reports that are out there and webcams you can usually get a pretty good idea of what you are getting into. I think facebook is taking over quite a bit too, but I am not and will never be on there.

I will be staying near Mercer starting Wednesday this week riding north through the weekend into Michigan. I will give you a report once I am there. From what it looks like the Mercer area isn't terrible and they are finally getting all the lakes marked. They also are supposed to get a little bit of snow tonight I believe. I was there between Xmas and New Years which was already two weeks ago but it wasn't bad then. You were limited on some of the trails you could ride due to low snow and swamps still muddy. I would imagine by now it has improved since then. Will report back to you.

Thanks RS-I am headed to the area the following week 1/21-24 and real interested in the conditions. Does not appear will be epic but any meaningful riding is needed!

Rode from Man. Waters to Boulder Friday and the trail was pretty good for early season. Rode from Man. Waters to lazy Aces Sat. and the trail was rough, but you could get through the swamp.
Then rode 17 North to Yukon(Fat Boys) and the trail was a 7 or 8. Had a brew and went home.
Yukon is closed and for sale. Not perfect but have ridden a lot worse.

Hello,
Latest I heard is you can ride from Hurley to Island area with decent snow, this is roughly parallel to Pine lake.
Trails may be slim to Pine lake on the grade but better after that.

Why is the Yukon II closed? That was always a great stop.

That place has been open and closed for at least for years now. Tough going up there when snowmobilers are not around. Plus lots of competition when there is. Not enough locals with enough money to keep all those places open. Just economics. If someone bought it with cash and for the right price they would be OK. But the price would have to be right.
