Mercer Wisconsin area

That place has been open and closed for at least for years now. Tough going up there when snowmobilers are not around. Plus lots of competition when there is. Not enough locals with enough money to keep all those places open. Just economics. If someone bought it with cash and for the right price they would be OK. But the price would have to be right.

I thought these last owners were doing a great job. But I guess that's kind of how it goes owning a place like that. Hopefully someone new can open it up and make it successful.

A friend got home from Mercer last night. Said they got some decent snow since he got there. The web cam at Great Northern looks like the sleds are covered in new snow. Heading up next week. Hope it continues to get better

Just got back yesterday 450 miles total. Flowage is all marked now. Rode from Mercer into Vilas Pres. Isle all was really good. Also ran up to Hurley and 17 was good as well. Rest of our miles were in the UP but staying in Mercer there are plenty of areas to ride that have good snow and trails are nice. We got about 6" of new snow while we were there that I had to clean off the truck. We just chose to ride north into Michigan since they had more snow. Get up there and ride who knows how long it will last this year.

Just heard that the Yukon is going to open around Feb 3rd and be called Yukon 51.

We rode trail 8 to 17 north about 2 hours ago and it was beaten into sugar, gravely and bumpy. Did not go beyond Mercer because I was dreading the ride back through the same crap. Maybe the Hurley trail system is better but I did not want to risk it.

Just got back, lots of snirt, rocks, and icy corners.

We stayed in Boulder Junction, rode down to three lakes, eagle river, St Germain, etc the first day and it got worse as we got closer to Three Lakes (less snow further south).

Second day we rode up to Hurley, trails were white for the most part up past Mercer, but needed to be groomed bad. Ride home was a motorcross mogul ride. Finally saw a groomer out Sat night around 7pm.

Big St Germain lake and the flambeau flowage were slushy and deep if you didnt stay on the hard pack. Didn't slow down to find out if there was ice under it... Ice fishers out all over though

I got home from 4 days in Mercer yesterday. There was ok snow. Never seen it so bumpy. Every trail was bumpy. We chose to ride the side of G road and avoid some of the trails the last night. Not sure if there was a groomer issue or just not the right kind of snow to groom any longer

I also just returned from Mercer area, they do need snow to help get the trails even close to fair condition. We rode on Sunday and part of Monday and the trails were better due to lack of traffic, but still not in good shape. Sunday rode up to Hurley, Iron Belt and down to Island lake and it was good. Took trail 14 from Bear Chasers and it was awesome, which it seems to always be. From the Flowage back to Mercer was horrible, again looked like the groomer had not touched this area and lack of snow. Can't do much for lack of snow, but I would agree if the trails could have been hit more by the groomers in the Mercer area it would have been fair to okay. Rode to Boulder and it too is thin, but it looks like they groom more then Mercer area as the trails were fair, but smooth, just lack of snow. Take the good with the bad, the only thing is when we left the flowage, trail 12B was just like a motocross track with huge moguls. A little snow will help if the temps stay cold and groomers stay on them.

Rode the mercer area..boulder junction..sayner...star lake..area on Thursday and Friday and the trails were fabulous. Flat as a pool table..The amount of sleds heading north on Friday as I was going south was pretty unbelievable however...The area is probably going to be in for a beating over the weekend. Cold temps will help keep the trails in good shape I would think.

My son went up on Wensday and is leaving on Sunday. ( 2/10-2/14).
Called and told me trails are great and snow is plenty. Lots
and lots of snow in the woods. His group has buried a sled everyday so far.
