Well got my MRI I have a herniated disk. Have any of you been diagnosed with a herniated disc and if so what did you do? Surgery or something else. Hoping to avoid surgery if possible.

You might try the “sit and decompress”. It is a sling that hangs in a doorway you strap around your chest. The concept is simple of relieving weight from your spine. This allows the spine a chance to return to a normal positioning. Look it up on Amazon and go to the chiropractor’s website that created it. Several people here have used inversion benches but you need to be careful to not hang upside down too long or twist/flex causing additional damage.

I had back issues since my early 20s and in 08 it put me down. I had an injection then and it worked for 10 years. Pain was back so in 18 had another. It took care of 75%of the pain but only lasted a year. Pain was back worse than ever. Left buttcheek, left calf , ankle, lower back. Everything but sitting in a car killed me. Had another injection in 19 and it did nothing. Met with a surgeon. And between the MRI and some odd xray he showed me my spine on his laptop. Calcium had grown around my sciatica at L4 L5 and had a bulging disc too
Calcium was likely from a small fracture form some point prior to 08. They found a small piece broken off then. Surgeon said he could fix it and I would have instant relief. Went into the OR at 12:30 PM and at 5:15 was rolling into the driveway at home. Zero pain. Never took a single med. Still perfect a year later. I am fortunate to get fixed by the group of doctors here in Indy that fix the IndyCar drivers when they get busted up. Very talented group of doctors. Ortho Indy. Had Rotator cuff surgery this year, November 26th. 9 weeks and I am almost back to normal. No pain and almost back to normal flexibility. Find a good doc. I've been lucky, not everyone is the same but a good group of docs can make a difference.

I am getting names now then going to do my homework. I have been dealing with the pain 2 months now so another week or two isn't going to kill me. I have tingling feeling in my calf and my thigh feels super tight. Based on what I have read sounds like I might need a microdesecomy, where they trim off the bulge so it doesn't push on the nerve. Will have to wait and see what the doctor says. It's easy pretending to be a doctor when you got Google lol. If that is the case sounds like will be back to normal in about 2 weeks. I appreciate all the response. Scary stuff when it comes to the back. I have heard so many horror stories about being in more pain afterwards.
