As expensive as it is for anyone to snowmobile what do you think it cost’s the dnr every year. Now that I’m trail boss I can tell you it is probably a lot more than most would think. So with this free weekend they are hoping to maybe get a few that want to come back plus how it helps the local economy. If your truly worried about money I really don’t think snowmobiling is in your best interest.

It doesn't "COST" the DNR a fricken penny.

If it was up to me, I'd make the seasonal pass $100, with the extra money going towards easements and somehow enforcement of stopping some of the off trail riding, and then add a weekly pass for $25.
you'd definately lose everyone south of a line across the middle of WI who doesn't have the means to chase snow. But the snowmobile snobs of the sport really don't give a rat azz about those folks even though that was where our great pass time got its roots.

You are correct the cost is actually all ours. My point is every time our groomer makes a run the cost for just that trip is $275 to $400 just in fuel and operator expense, not to mention all the other stuff that is needed to have a groomer and barn etc.
I doubt anyone can point to another recreational pass time that is user funded to the extent that snowmobiling is

Again so very true, for the others to break it down simpler I have 4 sleds in our family that is $208 in trail passes and that doesn’t even cover one of our groomers going out for one day. So the people that want smooth trails and not pay to do so blow’s my mind.

Just seems to me the pass is a total bargain for people who ride a lot but expensive for someone who just rides up there a couple days. I definitely pinch my pennies to ride so not a snob by any means.
