was just looking in to trailering laws and saw MI is 1 out of 8 states with a 8.0 with limit prob not enforced but could be 1 more thing to pull you over for or at least add on to the list of tix the cop is handing out.

why are semi trailers 102 inches or 8 and half foot wide if the law states 8.0 ft?

LOL Exactly. But they don't enforce the width that I know of and I have been hauling 102 wide trailers in MI for 20+ years. One I have seen enforced, albeit rarely, is the max towing speed. By the way the chart is somewhat outdated. MI upped the towing speed to 60 from 55 a couple of years ago and I noticed when I went through Illinois last week that they have taken down the signs on the interstates limited autos towing trailers to 55. So they may have changed their law as well.

I think I must have only done 60 only a few times hauling the sled trailer. That would be in a 45mph construction zone. Just kidding.... It seems MI State-boys tend to favor pulling truckers over ! I still remember being in the hammer lane heading for the bridge going 85+ and coming up on a statey with a radar gun, he looked at me , i looked at him, i gave him the hands up in the air ( figuring I was busted ) and he gave me the thumb " DOWN "..... I was happy to oblige ! That slowed me down for a while ! ! !

Michigan isn't as strict on big truck speeds as they used to. More than 5 over 10 years ago was a going to get you pulled over. Now it seems that anything under 10 over goes and the limit is higher now two. They are more concerned with the trucks who are licensed for 100,000 lbs and their speed and stopping distance. Least that is what I have been told. Illinois is definately at 65 now for trailers. Also have noticed every state is less strict on people going to spend money than rather the ones making money on the road.

i run up and down the road with a 102 wide multi axle flat bed 5 days a week in mi, when when it comes to speed 63mph is it any more, i have been pulled over and warned for 64 three times this year. Another law to watch out for in michigan is if you have a three axle snowmobile or any trailer for that matter you are only allowed 60 mph for some reason, they have been pulling people over and issuing tickets on us-127 for speeding

55mph

Interesting, did not know that the speeds were different for snowmobile trailers. Unless your driving a pickup and you can drive the speed limit while towing?

Got pulled over towing my fifthwheel travel trailer for a tail light, officer never said a word about the fact that I was driving 70 on I75?

I have been towing snowmobile trailers and campers in MI for 10+ years and I have always run 65-75 MPH, generally with the flow of traffic. Never been stopped. The MI speed limit signs only list trucks in the 55MPH section...no mention of trailers. In other states (OH, IN, IL, others) the speed for vehicles pulling trailers is clearly posted. Still not sure it's 55 for snowmo trailers or campers.....seems like it would be easy ticketing if it was....
