Milage from Tomahawk to Hayward, Wi?

Our snowmobile club is having its annual outing next year in Hayward, Wi. Before I go any further, I know what you're thinking, "It's only May, why is this nut case worrying about a ride that's 9 months away"? Well, the off-season is when we tentatively plan our trips for the upcoming season, as it gives us a reason to discuss new destinations and talk sleds now that the snow's gone.

Anyhow...my buddy and I were thinking about saddle-bagging it up there instead of trailering so we're wondering approximately what we'd be looking at for mileage. Due to a return trip on a Sunday, we don't want to be rolling back into town at 1:00am on Monday morning because of work.

We'd actually be leaving from our home town of Mosinee but we'd make our first fuel stop in Tomahawk which is 100 miles from Mosinee but I thought I'd get more responses if I started the milage count from a better-known starting point. Milage from Minocqua would also be helpful if there isn't anyone with a count from Tomahawk.

I've never ridden more than about 30-40 miles west of Tomahawk or Minocqua so if there are any suggested routs to the Hayward area I'd appreciate any advise you could provide.

One of our other ideas is to trailer to Tomahawk and start there. It would save a good chunk of time and might make the ride home a little more appealing.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!!!!!

If I remember correctly from when I did it, round trip to Stone Lake from Minocqua was about 240 miles (Corridor 10 there and back). Stone Lake by car is about 20 miles south of Hayward where hwy 70 turns west and hwy 27 turns north? If you can use the Hiawatha and then make your way over to the Tuscobia trail you can make pretty good time. Hope this helps.

Kevin - Thanks for the reply! 240 miles round trip? I was thinking it would be at least 250 miles one-way from Tomahawk (about 50 less from Minocqua). Looks like we'd be able to make it from Hayward back to Tomahawk on Sunday with no problem via the Bearskin Trail out of Minocqua. What kind of trail is corridor 10...tight/twisty or more open? Thanks again!!!!

You will be closer to if not over 200 from Tomahawk to Hayward one way. Doable in one day? Absolutely. I would make my way to Fifield, then north to the Tuscobia/corridor 10 just west of Park Falls. Then all the way to Couderay is rail grade, pin your ears back. From there depending upon where in the Hayward area you are going, you have a couple options. If you don't want to ride rail grade, stay on the trail that shadows Hwy 8 to Bruce, then shoot north from there.

Go out to the Polaris RiderX site and you can map out, without distances, exactly where you want to go. I don't recall if it pulls up trail numbers, but it will give you a good feel for where the trails take you, and where you can plan to stop for gas/food.

Thanks for tyhe reply xcr440. Yeah, that's very doable for us and will make for a fairly easy return trip on Sunday. On the way up though, we'll either take a longer route so we don't get there too early or drop our gear at the casino and head out for some more riding and supper on the trail.

I'll be sure to check out the Polaris RiderX site. I've never heard of the site before but it sounds like it'll be a great tool for planning this route and many others. Thanks again...only 30 more weeks until the trails open!!!!!!!!

Download the Polaris RiderX app to your phone, you will love it. You can use it while on the trails like a GPS unit. Very cool app.

I use it and like it. Wish it had trail numbers on it. Got an email from polaris about it wanting feedback, told them they should include trail numbers. Got a reply they are working on incorporating trail numbers on the app. It seemed to pick up some bugs when they re - formatted it last year. Was really good 2 years ago should get better.
