Planning a trip to the south end of Mille Lacs at the end of Janruary. Trailering over. Looking for some input as far as places to ride/stop/eat/Drink. Maybe some club website to look at. At a glance, we were looking at the West side as far as more places to ride to and as far as destinations. We like to hop around a lot. The people we are going to be riding with aren't into big long rides or anything. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We will be staying at The Village of Izatys Resort in Onamia, MN.

A couple years ago that area got pounded with snow and we stayed at Deerwood just north of Garrison. I haven't ridden that area very much but one afternoon we were there we rode south to garrison and west towards long lake and back up it was fine riding just way more road crossings than I like. If you get over to the paul bunyon trail my wife really enjoyed that nice and smooth when we were there also rode the mississipi river for a short stretch trails to Emily were nice then but they were windy. I would suggest going off in ironton on the spur trail to a lookout its pretty neat. Also if you like bloodys harpos in Merrifield was one that's hard to beat.

OK, got the trail passes ... waiting for snow ... looking at maps ... and BAM!!! It hits me ... No studs in MN!!!
Researched a little before I take them out because we have reservations and all. It says that studs are prohibited on paved trails.
OK ... is there a lot of paved trails in this area? Anyone out there that is a member of Mille Lacs Driftskippers?? Is there a map that shows where the paved trails are? Can't really tell online. Appreciate the input.

No issues with studs around the Mille Lacs area. There are 2 possible trails that have stud bans the Paul Bunyon 25 miles west of that area and the Willard Munger 25 miles east of you. Both have alternative routes and the stud ban on those are rarely enforced if at all.

Thanks a bunch. That makes me feel a lot better. Was planning on taking them out tomorrow! whew!
Now all we need is some snow.

Going anyway. Got a steal of a deal on the place for the week. We can always fish or, I don't know, maybe ... Drink.
How bout the lake? Don't know anything about it but can a person at least get around to some places on the lake? Still
haven't found a good place to research places to stop around the area. Any help in this area would be much appreciated.

Casino is cool if you like that. Garrison has a few decent bars. The lake is dangerous to ride on, stay near the shore.(within a couple miles). The heaves are very big. To be totally honest, the trails are just ok. Tons of fun all around there. Brainerd is 20 miles west of Garrison. Aitkin is 20 miles north.
Strip club 28 miles south. That area is known for fishing. To bad there's no fish left. As of now you could ride but not recommended.

60 minutes north the groomers have begun working.
