Mining moving forward in the Western UP.....possibly 300 jobs created

One of the Connor mills just closed down near Amasa, MI. Spoke to a guy collecting 'funemployment' as he stated Saturday at the Rusty Saw Blade. 15% of Iron County MI working employees just got pink slips due to Connor closing. Word on the street is Connor was 8 months behind payments to subcontractors. The mill is only a couple years old and is going to be torn down, at least that is what the rumor at the Rusty Blade was.

UP needs some new employers bad.

Spoken like someone who knows nothing about mining or mining jobs. Yes, there will be jobs that can only be filled by highly educated people, but the majority of the jobs will be "industrial experience" type jobs.
The iron mine that I work at has hired just over 300 people over the past two years. More than half were not college educated. What they had was a solid work history with good employment references, and experiences from a wide variety of industries.
Speaking from experience. If you prove you're reliable, eager to learn, and trustworthy you'll be a step ahead of many with just a degree.
Food for thought. Our general labor position starts at $23.97/hr. with huge bennys. Not to shabby for entry level in the UP.
.....................Right on! Encouraging news!...Hope it happens. Not just the mining jobs but the construction work for the buildings that will be needed, i mean they're not going to run that mine from a tent?
