Mississippi River Lodging

We are looking to take a week long family vacation staying on the Mississippi river. We have a boat and want to be right on the main river. We are looking to be somewhere between Lacrosse, WI and Lake Pepin.

Last year we stayed by Alma, WI, but we weren't on the main river way. As big an area that the river covers we are having troubles finding a place. It doesn't matter if we are on the Wisconsin or Minnesota.

Thanks in advance!!

Mississippi River

Are you planning on staying at a Marina or along shore? If a Marina go just north of Slippery's in Wabasha to the Wabasha Marina. They have the cleanest, nicest shower/restrooms on the Miss., bar none. Plenty to do around the area also. Also plenty of shoreline to campout at in the area too.

We are looking for a house/cabin. We will have 6 adults and 3 kids. Looking for something right on the river, with docking for a boat. Want a well kept reasonably priced place.

Rent a houseboat out of Lacrosse from Hucks. Easily sleep all of you people, has a hot tub, slide for the kids and everything you can imagine inside. Park anywhere up and down the river on the sand bars. We have done this 3 times in the past and it worked out perfect. Campfire on the beach at night and typically no neighbors depending on your neach. Best cabin you will find.

Come down the river a little further and check out Black Hawk Park just north of De Soto, WI. I believe there are a few folks that rent out their homes. Their private docks are right on the main channel and there is a boat launch in the "park" section. Pool 9 has a lot of sand bars / beaches and is one of the nicest streches of river there is! You'll love it!

May I suggest Holiday Shores Motel in Mc Gregor,Iowa It is right on the river has boat docking, great rates,it is an older motel with new owners who are spending a lot of money to upgrade the place. They are very nice people who make you feel at home.

We did the Houseboat thing a few years back and loved it!. My brother has a boat now and we are just looking for a place to call home for a week and then take various day trips on the boat. We are mainly looking for North of LaCrosse, because our experience is that it's supposed to be one of the nicest parts of the river and have many sand bars, scenery, coves, etc...

Finding out quick thats its not easy to find a place on the river with docking, so definitely will look into any suggestions.

You've just described Pool 9! It has many sand bars, coves, and you're one pool away from Riverboat gambling down in Praire du Chien / Marquette to the south, and one pool away from La Crosse. Also, in Lansing, IA they have the neatest "tie-up" marina with a Tiki bar that's always fun to hang at. Try Pool 9...you'll love it! (but don't tell anybody else!)

Can you give me names of any specific places that offer lodging for about 8 people with a place to dock your boat? I can't seem to find any.

Not sure about a house or cabin, but we alway made plans to dock for at least 1 night at the casino (Treasure Island I think) just north of Pepin/Red Wing. Top notch marina with power, fuel, services etc. A shuttle picks you up from the marina with luggage and all to bring you up the driveway to the main hotel. Always had good entertainment there, food, cocktails, etc. We had a 24.5 foot, and I think they charged us something like 25 bucks for the night to slip it. I thought that was more than reasonable. Good luck with whatever you find.

We have stayed at the Best Western on the Black River in LaCrosse as well as the Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing. Doospunk hit it on the head, the marina is nice at the casino. We did not see much in the way of commercial establishments between the two, other than the marinas. We are planning a long weekend on the Mississippi in June and are working on the details, likely in the Red Wing area again.

Trempealeau

The marina in Trempealeau is pretty nice - lock and dam 6 - and the Owners of the Inn on The River will pick you up at the dock. The only downside is the train.

Snowdance -

I think I just sent you a private message with a couple of people's names and numbers. Let me know if you didn't get it and I'll send it?

Wow, I have had some wild dreams at night at Trempealeau with those trains rolling through. But it is such a great place and nice town. If there, must hit Sullivans, great pork chops.

There is a hotel and marina and campground in Stoddard that just dredged out a new sheltered Marina last year

They have the perfect house (chalet) right next to the marina, but are booked for part of the time we are going to be there. :-( Thanks anyway!
