I have never been there but I took the survey. Here's my answer to all the fill in the blank questions

Snowmobiles are very environmentally friendly. They do not damage the environment in any way other than to leave tracks in hard packed snow. In this way they cause no more damage than snow shoes or cross country skiing(which only leave tracks in hard packed snow).

thanks to any filling out survey .
3 rivers parks have been trying hard to get snowmobiles out of the 10 parks they run (like a police state ) trails that have been in pace from as far back as the 60s .
with out those linking trails riding in most of the north/west/south metro will be tough.
3 rivers upper management have all stated openly they want only " passive recreation " with in 3 rivers parks. I have sat in a meting and one board member wants to eliminate boat launches for motorized boats with in the parks. This is what happens when u give a park board way to munch power including there own police force.
http://www.threeriversparks.org/parks.aspx link is a map to the amount of real estate and trails they control.

Good post Ezra......I just filled out the survey and plan to make the July 1st meeting in Maple Grove MN. Who else will I see there?

I also passed this info onto all our club members (northern part of the cites)......in you belong to a club please take the time to pass this info on to all your club members as well. As I am sure many of them do not know about these meetings/topic (I did not).

We all have to stick together and work together.

not a bad turn out for 630 on a June Tuesday.
only outspoken opposition was a horse person who came .you know the usual loud bad for the environment dirty tearing up the earth.
from what I understand at some point this summer there will be a 3 rivers meting for horse people to voice there concerns. I will deff be attending that one.
did meet a cool guy who is on the board of 3 rivers John Gibbs. if u go to one of the open mic forums seek him out he is on our side .
if planing on going I would suggest jotting down your thoughts 5 min is what they will give u .

good work ezra -the only time a snowmobile does any damage is when it burns up on the trail and that only melts the snow

A quick update.....I did attend the meeting in Maple Grove on the 1st of July

I am going to guess that there was about 25 snowmobilers there (different club members, MNUSA people, yada yada) also 3 gals that where not there in support of the trails but at the same time not bashing or bad mouthing the sport/trails. They are trying to get some trail access for winter horseback riding.....serious question (that I don't know the answer to) what would 10 horses do to a groomed trail. Would the horses tear it up (make the assumption just walking, not running) or would there be next to no evidence that they were ever there?

From what was said "out loud" it does not sound like 3 rivers is trying to push out snowmobiling but at this point in time gather more information and update their "guidelines". I do not have my notes with me from the meeting but going off of memory the original "guidelines where established around 1980 then "reworked" around 1990 and they are looking at "revising" them again.

One of the things that was kind of strange to me is all these parks (again going off of memory 10 or 11 of them across the state) are destinations for different activities (boating, picnics, hiking and what not) but in their "guidelines" say snowmobiling cannot be a "destination activity" for the parks. A trail can only enter and exit a park if it is needed to continue a trail. I thought this was strange, look at the state park in MN just East of Hinckley, great park that allows snowmobiling (great place for families).

It sounds like 3 rivers is going to work with the different local clubs that "touch" any of the parks boarders.

If you have not done so please fill out a survey soon......even if you are not from the area or ride in the parks. A comment was made by the 3 rivers people that it shows that "snowmobilers" stick together.....and we must.

the horse people are pushing hard to get the sleds out of the maple plane park they were successful about 5 yrs ago.
then a new club was formed the maple plane snowmades to address the fast loss of trails in the area including the park in question. baker park
they did not get all of the trails back but at lest enough to be able to get across town with out a 60mi detour.
these horse people can use the park 8mo out of the yr but that is not enough they want it all and have no intention of letting up until they get there way.
on a side note they ride horses on mi and mi of country dirt roads and park roads all around baker all yr.
