MN North Shore

Has anybody been riding between Two Harbors/Cook/Grand Marais this year yet? It is sounding like the trails are set up nicely, but grooming websites are spotty with up-to-date information. Trying to plan a trip in about a week and needing to decide between North Shore area or Hayward quickly to reserve a hotel for either, north shore being the backup plan. It sounds like Hayward needs the snow storm to pan out for next Monday to get it to good conditions.

We are in Finland right
now. Lots of
snow. The NSST is being groomed while the local trails should start any day now. Forest roads are great.

IMG_20161227_151432.jpg North shore is perfect. Around 15-20" of good heavy snow. Most trails will be flat and fast by Friday. we did mostly fire roads and backwoods. Never hit one rock. 20161226_113815.jpg IMG_20161227_102759.jpg PANO_20161228_090946.jpg

Don't know that I would have climbed up over the train tunnel yet. I spent a little time on the power lines today and while I didn't hit anything, its still a bit early for me to be comfortable out there! I've hit enough things when theres lots of snow on the ground out there!

Just got back from there last night. We started on Tuesday from the Americinn in Tofte. The access trail going up to the State trail was groomed and real nice, The NSST state trail had not been groomed yet, but was still fairly flat where it follows the forest road (166) We spent most of our time on forest roads and fire trails on Tuesday which were very nice and many of them were untracked. Wednesday morning we ran in to 2 groomers coming up the state trail from Finland, and yesterday we went towards Grand Marais. The was still a section of the State trail that was ungroomed, but it looked like some of the Lutsen loops had been groomed. There was plenty of snow up there, with a foot near the shore, and 1.5 - 2 feet upon top. That, along with the 12+ inches of new snow being predicted for Monday should make things very nice there next week.

When we rode yesterday around Finland they were just finishing getting the local trails groomed. The timberwolf trail was not yet groomed and I don't know about the tomahawk. It was not groomed on Thursday. Also the Yukon was not yet groomed and was real rough the section we rode (just south of the knotted pine.) forest roads were awesome, we had a great time. Got about 3" up there on Friday night and are calling for 8-12" Monday-Tuesday. Should be awesome then.

Snow looks great up there Troy! Are you going to be around this weekend?

First of all that's an old picture from a couple yrs ago. And no, I won't be up but my brother and his wife will be. We plan to be back up in two weeks. Shaping up to be a good winter though. Have you been up yet Kevin?

View attachment 55295 I like the concept of the Braap cabin but I prefer this.

Yeah that's nice. But ours has got wheels. Weekend after next it'll be in mass city, two weeks later Bayfield county. Then 1st weekend of Feb we'll take it to the Soo with us. Stay at my Dads while we are there, but be able to stop and ride where ever we want on the way back.
