MN North Shore

I actually like the idea. My wife would never go for it but I think the ability to move to different areas and ride and have your own spot to stay would be nice. A friend and I have joked several times about just staying in the enclosed trailer at night, fire up the generator, run some electric heaters inside. Not sure how warm we could keep it.
I really like the idea of having a truck camper. talked to a couple guys up near Isabella last yr that were staying in one and they said it works great for them.

If you end up looking at campers, be aware some are not insulated at all. Basically built for 3 season use not winters. We used to heat and stay in Austins enclosed 20' we had insulated walls and ceiling. But not the floor. We used some really good cots from Cabellas. With a 0 emissions propane heater it was a bugger to keep warm any colder than -10. More elbow room in it than this unit, but this one is super insulated. With windows its not claustrophobic more like cozy. We have both 12volt and 110 lights, inside and out (security, work, loading). Lots of 110 outlets (for charging phones I-pods, radio etc.) and thinking about microwave but we will have to get a bigger generator. Thhe 2000 watt is just over our 1500 watt electric heat. We bring my propane heater to bring it up to temp quickly when we park, and for emergency heat.
The bosses kids down at work have a 28' enclosed but no insulation. They've got a flat screen TV, DVD player and stereo in theirs. When they built it I joked, "It's got everything but a stripper pole."

First of all that's an old picture from a couple yrs ago. And no, I won't be up but my brother and his wife will be. We plan to be back up in two weeks. Shaping up to be a good winter though. Have you been up yet Kevin?

Not the north shore, but other areas of MN riding, yes. First North Shore trip is this coming week/end. Hope to see you up there this season!

GREAT IDEA!

A one stop sled destination....COOL. We used to have a converted 52 passenger party bus that hauled 4 sleds in the back and had seating, tables, a bar and kick *** sound system.....if we could have pulled the "Braaap Shack"...it would have been the "YAWHOOOOOO U.P. TOUR" on wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Conditions were outstanding between Silver Bay and Finland on Saturday. Tons of snow up there. Well worth the trip.

Looking for a Saturday loop out of two harbors if anyone has some idea's, it'll be my first time up there. Staying at the Viking Motel in two harbors..... looking for something in the 120 mile range. I was thinking of heading to Hoyt Lake, then Babbitt, then over to the tressle inn and back but not sure how big of a loop that is?

This is WAAAAAAY more than 120. More like 200+. For a little more perspective, its 72 miles one way from the Finland park and ride by the rec center to Babbitt going up the timber-wolf trail past Wildhurst.

Just to go from 2 harbors to the Trestle and back on the State trail would be 120+ A nice loop under 120 miles would be south a bit from 2 Harbors on the state trail, to the Pequaywan trail, to the Brimson trail, to the Yukon trail and back to the state trail and 2 Harbors. I think that would be around 100 miles. Those trails were all groomed as of last weekend, but the Hoyt lake trail had not been groomed yet. Another idea is to just take the state trail up to the silver bay area and do the Moose Walk loops and some of the Silver bay side loops. Snow is noticeably better and deeper as you go further north from 2 Harbors

We stayed in Tofte last weekend and State trail both directions was outstanding. Went south to Finland on 1st day. Stopped at the Trestle on the way down. Day 2 we went north to Devils track lake. 100 miles each day. Riding with wives or we would have made more tics. Cold too, but doesn't matter, we are going back tomorrow with just a few good riders! Yee Haw!!

Been riding NSST for past two days around Lutsen. Tails are still smooth but the Ricky racers are kicking the slushy snow out of the corners.

Any new updates on the North Shore Trails? Looking at staying in the Two Harbors area (or farther north) next weekend (Feb 2-5) and wondering how the trails have held up? A few reports sounded pretty good especially considering the rest of the reports in Northern MN and WI! I'm not ready to give up!!! Was on the CJ Ramstad and Gunflint Trails 2 weeks ago around Grand Marais and it was AMAZING. Would love a recent update! Thanks!

So we spent the weekend in Finland and trails were good. The state trail was excellent both days that we were on it. Local trails around Finland were all good. Trails are rock hard and if you're running a big track you'll want scratchers. Forest roads are bumpy, they are froze solid and any ruts will need some snow to cover. You can go anywhere though. Didn't get down by the shore but looks pretty thin along the lake. Better than I expected.

rode out of silver bay both friday and saturday and access trail groomed both days.moosewalk trails all groomed on friday.state trail groomed on friday night.
I would say to not base out of two harbors go farther north they did get snow today but not sure how much.i would suggest silver bay or tofte.trails into tofte was pretty good actually great until you get right close to town.lutsen gas access is good also.better than most of all last year.lutsen side trails great!
grand marais area also great.
