Mosquito control

I was at our place on LG this weekend and the mosquitos were terrible, probably the worst I have ever seen. We are heavily shaded and in thick woods so the wind does not hit the house and we are only in direct sun for a few hours per day. Even taking the dog out for a couple minutes required DEET. I have had great success at home with the mosquito magnet but am gone for too long a stretch up north for that to work. I know I will go nuts trying to kill off every last mosquito in our yard but has anyone found an easy way to make them more tolerable? Do bug zappers placed away from where you actually want to sit help? What about the foggers? I am just looking to cut the population down a bit, not to rid the property of the little bastards...

Try using fans where you want to be.
I have a fogger, and it is pretty much useless this year up north. The only deet that seems to work really good this year for me is 100%. But that stuff is pretty nasty itself.
My dog didn't even want to be outside so far this year up north.
The so called experts are claiming it should be an average mosiquto year after this first batch of hatchings. We'll see. It's just about unbearable right now, or at least a week ago when I was up last.

1st time skiters kept me inside. Seemed better Sunday lots of dragon files putting a dent in skiter pop....I'm a little gunshy now on cloudy days just have to see? River canoe rentals not renting don't want to subject renters to swarms....giving it a week to improve.

when you first get up start a bon fire immediately and let that thing smolder with as much smoke as possible that will help a little.

I've had decent luck with foggers, and I've also had success with the Cutter brand lawn spray. Comes in a bottle that injects itself into the water stream from your garden hose, as you spray the yard/area. KEEP the bottle when it's empty and buy the concentrate refill after the initial bottle is empty. Lay it on thick at dusk when they're thick in the grass, spraying everything hi and low. The little bastages were so bad here I had to spray my back yard wearing long pants, hooded sweatshirt, and gloves....balaclava might have been a bit extreme...lol. Around here the problem went from mosquitoes to gnats, and both somedays. Makes it hard to enjoy a nice evening. Eliminate any standing water you possibly can.

I have not tried this but,,,,cut a 2 litre in half. Mix 1/4 cup brown sugar w 1 cup hot water. Cool. Add 1 gram yeast. Pour in bottom half. Tape funnel (top half) as shown. Wrap in something black, maybe tape and place away from gathering area.

One thing sort of funny a buddy of mine did a few years back was so called "save himself" and toss the rest to the wolves....

He simply sprayed a shot of cheap cologne on the rest of us.....got a few of us when we weren't looking........

I am beginning to think the only fan that will work here due to the excessive amounts of these little blood suckers is a bank of fans from Florida University's Hurricane Research Center. I've had so many skeeters & sand flies on & around me I felt a breeze from their wings, in fact at one point thought I may be able to fly like friggin Peter Pan across my yard! Especially after all the blood they took from me! I heard there is a granulated repellent that you can broadcast onto your lawn, don't know much about it, but, I have too much yard for that method.-Mezz

The invasion seems to be over here dragon flies helped also little to no rain dried up standing water. Will see how it goes after next rain?
