Motocross Helmets

Wondering if those of you that have been riding with "motocross" style helmets the past several years can offer some insight with them. Looking for any "wish I would have know that" before I make the purchase myself for my boon-docking adventures. One questions I have is, can you ride with them at all temperatures? I have a full face, but would like to add one of these to the quiver. Also any recommendations for a helmet in the $250.00 ballpark.
Thanks much!

Best advice I can give you is to go try them on and see which one feels the best. Basically everyone that I ride with has done this and no one has any complaints. In our group we have the old 509 helmet, the new 509 helmet, Fly, FXR and Klim. All good helmets in my opionion.

Find one that's a snow helmet, the vents then should be able to be closed in cold temps, mine is a HJC helmet, I like it, but it is a MX helmet and the vents don't close so it can get a bit of a cold draft running fast at temps less than 5 below. Even with my Klim artic balaclava.

Rumor has it that a properly installed mohawk will deflect the wind.

bring your leaf blower to the store with u.
every one has a diff size and shape head.
no 1 helmet and goggle set up is good for every one.
again go to the store bring your leaf blower and if your buds have any goggles bring them in case the store dose not carry that brand.
I have a F4 love it when it is not sub zero . do not like that klim no longer gives out 2 size cheek pads . again klim has very questionable quality on the plastic parts on the helmet. but it still looks ok with every stuck on plastic part busted off.
I got a new fly carbon this yr (fyi same as HMK) have not used change is hard for me lol. have thousands in high end gear in my garage and 99% of the time use my old oil stained busted zipper cat boondocker jacket and 1st yr motorfist bibs.

The Fly helmet comes with a vent plug kit to stop the cold air from coming in. The one thing thats important is the balaclava that you choose. I use the klim arctic with mine and it works great. The key is to get a good seal between your goggles, helmet and balaclava. I wear mine in all temps without any issues. Just for reference I use the fly carbon, 509 goggles and the klim setup. Like was already said not all helmets fit all head shapes.

Thanks for the reply guys! I have had a chance to try a few on, but many shops are already running low this time of year. Might be a next year purchase. Would still like to try on a 509 and a Fly helmet. Thanks!

I have the older 509 with 509 sinister goggles and love it, I rode all last year in -20 f temps and never got cold, on the other hand, my bud bought a new 509 setup and we were in Hayward 2 weeks ago and it was-18 f he got so cold with it, I noticed it has more venting and all weekend all I heard was the helmet sucked, he couldn't believe how well mine performed.
