A while back there was discussion in MI on Motorcycle helmet law making it mandatory. I haven't heard anymore on it and was just wondering if this has passed.

Not in Illinois, but starting today, backseat passengers in cars have to wear their seatbelts. Of course it's all about safety, not money.

you know I will wear a helmet law or not. Soccer moms and cell phones have changed the issue. I want a better chance to live. Rode 12,000 miles on the springer this past summer.

the little half helmet skull caps we wear these days are nearly the same as riding without if you go down

this summer my brother in law and I were riding in WI and thought it would be fun to head up to bergland, we crossed the boarder in Presque Isle and went about 12 miles and a state trooper pulled us over, we thought we were speeding but nope, MI has a helmet law. He made us turn around and head to WI, which I thought was pretty cool, no tickets.

sooo your saying that you should put one on in a car cuz they crash and people get hurt there also.....

I'm not saying that as we are talking about riding motorcycles here, but odds of surviving a crash on a cycle with a helmet are much better than if not wearing one. If you have the choice, do what you like, I believe it's still a free country. I just know from being with a fellow rider who went down on a bike that he would have been much worse off w/o a helmet.

I agree polarisrider1!! Too many distractions with the cagers that we need to do what we can to protect ourselves. Evidently their multi-tasking is more important than paying attention to their driving and others on the road.

This debate has been had on this forum already. Just agree to disagree please. The question was does Michigan have a helmet law? The answer is yes and has for some time.

thank you Andy. So now you guys have to seatbelt in the back seat riders in IL. Wow progress. Lol the other night on the news they were rattling off a bunch of new laws that went into effect on the first. Just what I we needed, more government telling us how to think. Mi. Helmet law still on books for now, if it changes the only reason will be to draw tourists to the state. Besides Andy the helmet keeps my hair out of my eyes! :)

I don't mind if you chose to use or not to use a helmet. I just don't like it when we need to cover your hospital bills.

Personally, I would wear a full head helmet no matter what the law says...and I do.

And I could also care less if those who chose to go without either....except.....these are the very folks that will run up blue cross bills for weeks and months basically punishing everyone else for their stupidity.

It's all about the added cost for those who think, THEY will never take a spill on a bike (go figure..) and that's the only time
you need all the protection....and THEN you can't have enough of it.

Aside from that....ride naked if you want....nobody cares, except for your immediate family, maybe!

If you could carry a waver of medical rights when riding naked...exempting yourself from medical coverages, then I am sure Michigan wouldn't care, and the morticians would be thankful. After all, who are we to say who lives and who dies?
