Fuelex8: I just got back into the sport this year. I picked up a 2011 Gary Fisher/Trek X-Caliber 29er (Hardtail). I live in the Green Bay area so, I ride the Reforestation Camp and Bairds Creek on week nights. I've also hit up the Southern and Northern Kettles, Nicolet Roche, Kiekhaefer and some un-maintained one tracks along the Milwaukee River. http://www.fattireguides.com/trails/trailLocator.cfm has been a great resource to learn of existing trails.

Any suggestions of where to try next? What do you ride and do you like it?

Just noticed you were from NW Lower MI. I travel to that area occasionally and I'm still interested to learn of anything in the area and/or resources available to MI bikers.

man_scout, Yes i live in the North west lower just east of Traverse City. I also have the x cal 29er absolutely love this bike! And also have a Trek fuel ex 8 full suspension! We have a lot of single track trail systems in the area. The Vasa trail is one of the most popular ones in the Traverse City area. The first weekend of November we have the Ice Man Cometh its a 27mile point to point race starting from the town that I live in. It go's from Kalkaska to Traverse City on two tracks and some single track. Check it out @ www.iceman cometh.com! Last summer I rode in a race in Marquette MI called ore 2 shore just did the race didnt get a chance to free ride but the course was pretty scenic and fun If you ever up that way I would suggest checking out their trails!Go to www.mmba.com and that site will have infomation also!

Only two mountain bikers? My wife and I ride the southern Kettle Moraine bike trails near our home in SE Wisconsin. We're not hardcore though. We have a couple of older GT Taleras that we keep in the fleet just to ride the trails. Tryed to post the KM web address but it wouldnt come up.

Jamis Dakota AL hardtail. Don't ride much two or single track anymore. Use to live and ride a bunch in the Twin Cities. River bottoms and Theo Wirth area.

I dont get to ride much. I need to start to ride more. Gaining weight is my driving factor. There is a forestry project starting in my area. They are building a single track mountain bike trail I am excited to try. It meets some Mountain Bike race association standards blah blah blah.

I have an old school Gary Fisher Joshua XO

I get out MTBing a lot. Outside of my home trails we've hit Kettle Moraine (just OK), we ride the snomobile/atv trails in Northern Iron Cty, Wi. (Pines-n-Mines), The trails around Powderhorn & Indianhead Mtns., Chequamegon Area trails, We rode at Copper Peak in Mi. when they used to let us take bikes on the lift, We've hit Marquette Mtn. & surrounding trails, Houghton/Hancock area trails, and over the years we've made various trips to Snowshoe area WV, Winter Park, Co., Lake Tahoe, NV, Moab, UT, Lake of the Ozark area trails & some others I'm forgetting. The guys I ride with have been friends since high school and we've been doing it for at least 15 yrs. A few of them are my snowmo buds too. It gets me by when the snows gone.
My two current bikes are a Klein Adroit Race (hardtail) and a Turner 5-spot pro build (full suspension). I primarily ride the 5-spot, it's an unbelievable ride. Tuning the suspension on my bikes has aided me in setting up my snowmobile suspensions as well. Finely tuned suspension on either makes for a whole different ride.
Our local trail (1/2 hour from my house) is where they would have held the Olympic MTB had Chicago been awarded the Olympics.

I am just getting into this. I bought a used bike four years ago but it has collected dust and i just got it back out. I'm interested in learning how to set the bike up for me, how to maintain it, etc. Any good sites for that?

lol, as someone who has done a lot of road bike and mountain bike racing over the years, I've learned that spandex is extremely functional!

It may not be fashionable, but it's definitely acceptable in the world of cycling. If you're really overweight, it might be good to lose a few lbs first.

X2. Since we started riding the bicycles again, my wife has mentioned that my backside is starting to look like it did when I was twenty. Especially in my bike shorts. And they are Lycra not Spandex.
