Will the ice statues still be worth seeing next weekend? Thinking about taking my kids to check them out.

If someone could take some pictures to share with us out of towners,...
that would be awesome!
They sure do a great job on those.

A few might get knocked down this week, but they usually don't start knocking them down until they become unsafe. So most of them should still be around by next weekend. However, some of the finer details in them may be destroyed for one reason or another, but if you head down there next weekend, you will still be able to take in much of their grandeur and certainly become appreciative of the scale of some of these things!

Here are a few links I could find. Usually we head down and take pics, but it was too cold and windy to be out with grace for very long (at least that is the excuse I am sticking to!) yesterday and even though today I had to go down and give a speech on Tech's campus at an avalanche course, I forgot my camera!

The statues were great this year. I have a daughter playing for the Michigan Tech womens basketball team and had a great weedend. She played on Saturday and after the game we took a run to Gay and back. We arrived back in town to see the fire works at Mt. Ripley. My daughters and i layed on our backs on a snow bank and enjoyed every minute. Had a great time on the trails !!!! If you ever get a chance to experience Winter Carnival it is well worth it.

I will see if I have time to get out and take pictures this afternoon. As pointed out, how good they still will be next weekend will be completely dependant on the weather. With any extended period of warm they start to lose the finer details, "get dirty," and the tall ones end up being knocked down due to safety concerns.

Will have an album posted in the Photo Gallery section in a few minutes, but the links John provided have some great pictures, not only of the statues, but of other events during Carnival. Amazing, yet really sad, what a couple days of sun will do to the statues (compare my pictures to some of the ones in the links above).
