We have some good news. We have obtained all of the necessary approvals and have the paperwork in hand for a new SPUR trail!!!!
It will run along M28 from FFH13 (holiday) going east to trail 422 Miners Castle Trail.
It will be marked with green diamonds. This will be groomed regularly.

This will not be funded by the grant program. Local business owners are stepping up and backing this effort.
watch for details to come on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AlgerCountySorva/

Other news -
Signing in the area has been greatly improved.
Dirt grading this past fall. (smooth dirt) Don't need 2 feet of snow to cover the dirt moguls any more.
Extensive mechanized and hand brushing.

I don't know if this is good news or bad.
Des this mean the old "spur" from behind the Holiday station to the railroad grade is closed? Or is this new trail a secondary trail to reduce traffic on the old spur. That spur has the largest whoops at the end of the day that I have seen in 20 years.
Been running this ditch trail to avoid the main spur and it is usually pretty good, sounds like the secrets out.

419 south to trail 8 is open. This is the trail you are referring to. It is also completely graded and widened.
That route is going to be better than ever. This new SPUR is to split the traffic coming and going from the hotels.
It will also allow better routes for grooming operations. 419 was so over processed and beat to crap by both sleds and groomers.
To me this was common sense and needed.

Snocrazy, Thanks for the update. We have been riding up there since the mid 1970 always staying at the Rick's Hillcrest. Now we stay at Joe and Maries motel.
Have a question for you. Could some business put up a snow cam as the one at the Arctic dealer has been down for over a year.
Always like to check those out before we go up to Munising.

I am in the process of rebuilding the website. www.algersorva.com
This is part of our plan to display webcams at the following places. Baby steps.... Tanglewood, Buckhorn, Munising Motorsports (Cat Dealer), Renze, Whitefawn. Working on some Christmas locations, still need to talk to Foggies, White Pine, or the casino. Sure one of them will put on up.

Definitely will be over in that area again this season to ride. Sounds like everyone over there is doing what they can to help make them great. Thanks

It's nice seeing communities pushing for the sled community. Seems like the trend lately has been to push us all out.

It sounds like the M28 ditch trail east from the Cherrywood lodge we all have been riding for 20+ years will now be groomed?...cool!....mostly used at night on the way back as a short cut.

I have to say snocrazy, you guys seem to have your priorities right in line. Your "grading project" is a big success it appears!!! All of you people have really got it done over the past few years compared to what trail conditions were before. I say thank you, and congratulations to everyone involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will reap the rewards for sure. It's a wonderful area, and we will now return to ride there!!!

Thanks for all the kind words.

We are doing our best. We are snowmobilers who are getting involved and making a difference!

Keith C our club President finished signing the new spur over last weekend.
George W is picking up the culvert in Escanaba today to put in the "DITCH" just West of the Cherrywood.
Tom C is working on the John Deere getting it ready for what we hope is the last season.
Dave H and Bill have been the main hand brushing guys. Also managed mechanized brushing.
100% VOLUNTEERS - The work never stops.

I know you all are anxious for the snow to hit but we are not upset over its late arrival.
Trying to slip in some Grant projects before winter. We have funding for 4 separate projects.
Should be deciding on contractors this afternoon. The bids are now in the hands of the DNR with our recommendations for awarding.

Seems no matter how much you plan the winter comes on real quick and we are in scramble mode.

Good post, glad to hear about the dedication to the trails. I was always told in the past to avoid the area and now its completely the opposite and one of my fellow riders raved about the area last year. We are planning a trip over this year.
