I've been up here several times but when I think about the Keweenaw I've always dreamed about taking my family up here. I know a lot of you get to experience it several times a year but its a 600 mile journey for us so it takes some planning ahead. After my work schedule, obligations, I was finally able to put a trip together with the most important people in my life. My wife and my boys. We arrived on the 27th and just got home a few minutes ago.
We stayed in Americ Inn in Calumet and it was the 1st time I had stayed there. It was very nice and clean. Breakfast was good. I would recommend it.
All the trails in the Keweenaw were great with little to no bumps. We saw several groomers working each day. The sled traffic was pretty light and when we did meet sleds on the trails everyone slowed down and were courteous and patient and I do appreciate that since we had the youngens with us.
We spent day 1 just getting used to the "rules of the road" and went for a short ride to hancock and back up 3 to Calumet. The 2nd day we went to copper harbor but it was snowing so hard it was pretty hard to see the views. We stopped in the bear belly for afternoon lunch and great service as always. Day 3 we road to lake linden down 122 and back up to 3 to south range and fueled up. We stopped in the library for lunch.
All the sled ran great and the gas prices seem like a bargain compared to previous years. ON the way home today the sled trailer traffic was incredible. On 51 I'm guess 1 out of 3 were a truck and trailer. Hundreds of them! It looked like a sled migration! With the lack of snow here in the midwest it was great to see all the sleds out. Alot of people when passing us or anywhere were so great to the kids. They would take the extra time to waive or stir up conversation with them about snowmobiling. Everyone UP there was so kind and polite it give me a glimmer of hope of all the negativity we see in the news today. Thanks to all the clubs, groomers, and hospitality you provided.
I've put a video together of our trip Id like to share with you all. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did making it. If any of you saw us let me know! 2 yammies and 2 cats.
