My 'new' M8 is spitting oily sludge out of the y-pipe?

I was up at camp this weekend to rake leaves but also got the sled(s) ready. Installed a Wildchild gauge cage on the M8 (man this thing is nice I'll actually be able to see the gauge now) and a couple other details. Anyways when I ran it it was spitting oily sludge looking junk right by the donut "gasket" on the y-pipe to expansion chamber pipe. It was on the engine side of the ring not the ball/socket side. I can only imagine it is simply just leaking under or behind that ring and I am just getting some carbon/oil/gas byproduct spitting out. It was making a mess under the hood. It is the only thing I can think as the machine seems to be running just fine and has less than 300 miles on it. So I am thinking I will do one of 2 things. Option #1, my favorite, is to convince my wife that I need the SLP pipe set for xmas and it will be solved then. Option #2 guessing I can take the pipe off and put some high temp RTV under that ring and stop it. Sound reasonable? Anyone have much experience with RTV drying in cold temps? Since my wife will likely get talked into the pipe set ideally I would install and ride right away but guessing the RTV needs some time unless the hot engine will just dry it fast.

my 08m8 did same thing and i put rtv on last year it slowed it down!!
I just put slp kit on and the little I have run the sled it still has goo coming out but I believe the rtv needs time to set up!!!

I keep cat cleaner around and when I get home I will just wipe up with that..

Cool that's what I figured. It is installed at the 'notch' seemingly correct, but yes that is where it is spitting right at the notch. Makes for a clean under the hood to get dirty.

I will plan to RTV whether I get the pipe set or not.

I would check for a possible crack in the y pipe. They seem to crack right where you cant see it,so the best thing to do is remove the y pipe and give it a good look.

When they sit during the summer, oil seaps through the pump and will drain into the engine, so when you start it the first time it will blow it out the exaust. It will be fine and wont leak through the season once it gets hot. The RTV will keep it in but will burn out so you want to remember and put a coat on before you start it next year.

They make high temp rtv. We use it on the exaust manifolds of our dirt latemodel. We are always taking them on and off and the rtv makes it cheaper than gaskets. I think it is a copper color tube.
