My reward for being honest

OK, so the other day wife and I are driving down Hwy 42 (two lanes, 55MPH) to Green Bay, and there is a Buick going 48 miles an hour in front of me. So, I decide to pass. Normally no big deal, but the wife's pickup does have that neat sounding Chevy V-8 under the hood, so I stick my foot all the way into the front grill! I am just standing on it! OK, in the left lane, roaring down a 2 lane road, car comes over the hill and "BAM" the radar detector starts screaming. Yessir, I am in the left lane flat out staring at a sheriff's deputy. BUSTED! This is gonna be expensive! So I pull over off the Highway, roll down the window, and by the time he catches up to me I have my license, registration, and insurance papers all ready.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?" he asked. "Yeah, I was speeding" I replied. " How fast do you think you were going?" he wanted to know. "Well", I said "I was passing a Buick going 48 miles an hour, I figure I was doing about 75."

"No", he replied, "I caught you at 79! I'll be back in a minute, let me see what I can do."

Well, after what seems like an eternity, he comes back with a piece of paper blowing in the wind, and I know this is one very expensive speeding ticket. He hands it to me and says "You are the second person to be honest with me today, and it makes my job a whole lot easier when people tell the truth. Here is your warning, now slow down!"

Man, I thought I was gonna hug him through the window!! This would have been $300 and half my points. Hooweee! I owe a deputy a favor....

I got pulled over just outside of Rockland coming down the hill near Military Hill doing 87mph with a trailer on the back. I know it was excesive but I was honestly trying to build momentum for the upward hill. Sure enough a Michigan Staty was coming the other way and nailed me. I pulled over before he even made the turn and told him exactly what I did. He let me go with a 5mph over ticket. Cops aren't dumb and have heard every excuse in the book. Being honest with them goes along way and your story is proof.

Alright..is it me....my buick...I mean some guys buick is going 48 mph in a 55 mph zone, you are only passing and the truck jumps to 79 mph passing this guy like he is standing on the side of the road....guy this isn't adding up 30 mph passes are far and few 15-20 maybe...but 30???

Now what's the REAL story????

Nah, I believe it. First off, he said he was just "giving it" so I assume enjoying a few seconds of "blessed" accelleration! Secondly, when I had a "fun" car, and had to (WANTED TO) pass, I almost ALWAYS nailed it just for the fun of it! 30mph? Easy......And then some!

As for the "reward", I've heard that the honesty factor goes a long way. Doesn't always get you off easy, but a clean record helps.

The real story...
Two years ago I bought a nice new Silverado, wood trim, leather, V8, the whole deal for ME. Wife bought a new Trailblazer, 6 cyl, nice vehicle, but dull as crap to drive. For a variety of reasons I now drive the 6cyl tennis shoe, she has claimed the truck as hers. So, been a while since I've driven my truck, and well, I was running out of passing lane, and you know that V8 sound, and well...goodbye Buick!

I know the feeling, I just canned my 4 cyl. s10 and got a 96 1/2 ton with a vortec 350. Had to put dual exhaust on it right away and just the sound of a v8 when you're passing makes it hard to let off the go pedal sometimes.

Another fast car, my brother just picked up a supercharged buick regal, for a bigger car this thing hauls the mail. It's fun when there is a rice burner at a stoplight revving up the motor and the Purple Buick blows them away, I thought my Accord went pretty good til I drove the buick.

So because you gave in to your wife, and are driving a tail dragger you got a tiny chance to remind yourself of what ponies feel like and you took that poor old guy, scared the beegggeeezzzus out of him by roaring by and had a brown colored grin on your face when the county fuzz caught you red handed doing the zoom, zoom, zoom...that about right???

Now I understand...blame Government Motors!!!

Not all Buicks are for the blue haired!

My V6 2007 Dodge Magnum would eat up that V8 Chevy pickup. Only 250 hp, but no lag in the pull...the dual pipes of the Chevy do sound better though.

LOL, I do the same thing Cuzz! No diesel power in my truck, I need all the momentum I can get. :)

Back in January I was driving home from John's house on a Sunday. I was in Lincoln County between Rhinelander and Gleason HWY 17. I got pulled over for doing 79 in a 55. Not really sure why I was going that fast, but, I was. When the cop came up he asked what the hurry was. I said, I just want to be home in time to watch the Packer game. So, I got a 176.30 dollar fine for speeding. He must have not been a Packer fan is all I could think of. LOL.
