My Trespass Story for today....

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, as seen in this thread. I am inserting mine. Logging does far more damage than running over saplings or churning up some dirt. I am not for tearing up someones yard but do like to hit some powerlines every now and then. I think getting drunk at all the bars and riding your sled around is a far worse . If you want people to stay out of your property then you need to fence it or put up signs everywhere. Calling "renegade" snowmobiliers TERRORISTS is mental. Maybe I should start a thread on how I am sick of people whinning about trivial things. Or maybe there is already one....lol

The Loggers have permission to be there. Some people just don't get it.

Well,I totally understand where the landowners are coming from...WAY to often over the 10 years I've been coming to the UP do I see a no snowmobiles sign with tracks going right by it...mabey they are too stupid & cant read.I apologize for them...
My sled already has numbers & is easy to spot & remember...if I have ever disrespected anyones property or been somewhere I shouldnt be,PLEASE tell me & I'm very sorry!Offtrail riding is new to me & quite a fun experience as I've been blessed to be able to view a beautiful part of the UP!I love being able to go where you normally would not be able to go to see awesome nature...
We never travel where there is a fence or a no tresspassing sign...Is there any other advice the landowners have for me?Again,I'm terribly sorry if I've been somewhere I'm not supposed to be & I for one Thank you to all the awesome people who live in the UP!!♦

Hay Painter;

Maybe you should look up the thread on Powerlines, it is illegal to ride them also as they cross private property and the only people with a right to be there is the power company?

As for logging? Guess who owns the land that is being logged? The logging company and they can do what ever they want with there own property as they own it and pay the taxes on it. Also in this day and age after cutting they plant new trees to take the place of the ones that where cut. That is until people ride around there land and kill the new trees put in to replace the ones that where taken. It has been going on for hundreds of years and if you look around Northern WI and MI you will see miles of land full of trees.

And if you "read" this thread you will see that we do put up signs and gates and everything else we can think of and people that feel they are on vacation and "support" us feel they have a right to take down our gates and run over the signs and go where they please on OUR land THAT we paid FOR and PAY taxes on. And the fact that we should watch what we say because we might hurt there feelings and they might not come back? ***

It is the landowners land and we can do whatever we want too with our land, if we choose to log it, clear burn it, open a ATV park on it or would like to just enjoy it and be able to let our kids play on it and our dogs run on it without the fear that some person that feels they have a right to be there because they come up and spend a dollar at the store will come flying down our road running over or worse killing our family members because they can go and do as they please.

If you want to "support us" and do as you please then feel free to "support" us by buying a nice 40 or 80 with your hard earned money and pay the taxes on it and then you can ride where ever you would like on your land. And when you do PM me I will be picking up a new sled and would like to try it out in "your" back yard.

I don't think it is a matter of the Loggers have permission. I think what Painter is saying is that the small amount of frozen ground he may make contact with will not do the damage a logging operation will do!

I think that the trail riders that are down on the boondockers for trenching in and hitting the ground doing what they call is damage need to take a look at the damage they do to the ground on a trail with marginal snow! We need to look at the issue at hand and it is not the damage done! It is the fact that some are going where they are not suppose to be! Because of that in sensitive area's some damage has been done! The issue - Don't go where you don't belong and we have no issue!

Thats good painter get all stirred up and show just how inteligent you are not.Tread litely it looks like you are probably one we are looking for and with a attitude like you have you probably will end up in someones yard and get caught.Attitudes and thinking like yours it what causes these issues.

You just don't get do you !!!!!! Your part of the problem, and your way of thinking costs US all trails.

Party in Illinois

Maybe we should just all find out where painter lives in Illinois, show up on his front lawn, back up the pick-up, unload the grill and wheeler, throw a party with some loud music and then proceed to rip wheelies on his nicely sodded yard and then see how he likes it?

We can even buy the burger patties, wheeler gas and lawn chairs in Illinois, that way we will have "the right" to do what we are doing because we spent a little money there. Sounds good to me.

SERIOUSLY,I think Lenny may be onto something here=with some sort of volunteer patroling!! sounds like a good plan, just need to figure the logistics out. I'll bet alot of people would sign up,myself included. prob wouldnt need someone there 24/7 once the word got out it may be enough to deter the IDIOTS!!

It's worth a try but I see two problems...first, who is going to organize it? Private individuals can't really do it, it would need to be done through the club who could then allow
even non-club members to be certified for patrol. We could volunteer because we don't ride on weekends anyway. I don't think Lenny could organize it unless he does it through
the club because he is in business and business owners need to be careful not to offend.
secondly, it would need to be on going every year because new people are always coming here...that's why being organized through a club would work best. After awhile tho less
frequent patrol would be needed and some serious sounding signs as warnings might deter the aggressive ones or at least drive them away from the environmentally sensitive areas.
thanks Lenny for offering a possible solution...talk won't probably change much because like was said before... it's mostly "good guys & gals" on John Dee!!!!
thanks Snake for supporting some positive ACTION!
thanks Caged Beagle for the party invitation....if positive action doesn't work....I'll gladly bring the potato salad!!!

C-chick, I agree that it would be best to try and find a legal, organized way to implement something like this. So, I am with ya on that, I was just trying to make a point the most arrogant, ignorant way I could.

And cool on the potato salad. Nothing rounds out a good bbq like some potato salad.....just remember to buy the 'tatoes in Illinois. :D

Where is military hill and plum creek? Is that on the main road between Bruce Crossing and the Rock land area?

Military hill is north of Bruce Crossing by the Ontonagon River, Plum Creek is the name of a company that owns a lot of forest lands.
Plum Creek owns land over by Victoria which is west of Rockland where the Ontonagon River again crosses the road. If anyone else can
offer a better answer, please do. Maybe there is a Plum Creek somewhere also but I think in the post the person said Plum Creek owned
the land up toward the top of the hill where renegade snowmobilers have been going off trail and chewing up the hillside vegetation. Hope
this helps.

When my group goes off trail our GPS shows green for state owned land. If we see a sign or fence we turn back. Why cant they just make a trail map for say $25.00 that shows private land ect.? How hard could that be instead of having to go to the county and buy these charts. They keep raising the trail permits every year but you still see the same old cheesey trail maps year after year. What would be so tough to color in the private no ride areas on a map. Your not going to stop the biggest offenders no matter what you do. I was in the UP for 5 days during the JD ride never saw any law officers out their at all. Ive ridden with local guides that went any where they wanted to go, thru fences around them past signs. Your going to tell me they had permission. I understand the problem I wouldn't want people ripping thru my property either. I get pissed when I find dog dirt on my frigging lawn. I think with GPS technology you should be able to transfer it to a map no problem.

Iron county Wi has thier trail map shaded green showing where is the legal state land to ride. I have suggested this for the UP and met with HUGE resistance on this site from locals. Most state it would be hard to do but that is an excuse i believe. Iron cty Wi did iy no problem,

I figured there would be a pretty simple solution. Starting to feel alienated in my own state. Anyone south of the bridge stay on the trails.

No one should ride off trail where it is posted not to. Some people are jerks. Some land owners are jerks. In Ironwood off Trail 160 is a small local tavern. The owner is a snowmobiler and a groomer. This time of year he needs snowmobilers. To get to his place you follow the signs off trail about a mile on the side of the county road to the tavern. This morning one of the landowners put a couple crudely made signs on sawhorses saying: "This is not a trail keep off." in front of his house. However, the snowmobilers ride on the side of the road to get to the tavern not his yard. He does not control the county road. This to me is plain rude and unacceptable. He has no legal right to put these signs on sawhorses on the side of the road. Nice of him to hurt a local business and piss off sledders. (this is not the typical tresspass issue). This guy is a jerk and, I hope his signs get destroyed or, taken by the county.
