John,

I have noticed on several attempts that the Lost Pine Lodge cam doesn't display ( for me ) ?
There are a couple of others in the MI Lower such as Sister Lakes that display an old image.
Could I have an outdated " plug-in " of some kind of software glitch with my Laptop's " OP system " or do these cams need some service or replaced ?

I would be willing to visit the specific locations especially the Cadillac cam and rectify if possible. Even if it would be a financial expense to do so.... is there some help I could be ? Heck even if I have to buy a cam on my dime & install ( R & R ) the old cam ..... I would be willing to do so.

Please advise,

If I have some software adobe reader, picture viewer issue .... or some other IT anomaly ( which would be no surprise .... ! ) Please advise on that also.
My apologies if it is my lack of computer skills that is presenting the problem.

Thanks
mike

That is generous offer,
How about a few paragraphs on how a Cam system works.
Many of us would like to install a Cam with internet connection, for home security.
Thanks

I think the problem is that a lot of folks set up their cams but don't maintain there connections and or pc's!
I have the cam on the page with the Krupps page and my house up there sits with the PC and cam running and I'm only there every other weekend or so! So if my modem or PC stunts down for updates or power outages it can be a challenge to get a neighbor or such to go reset!
I think some folks just can't get to their equiptment to reset or whatever!
I'm sure some folks just quit and don't care too!
I like panic if mine goes down cause I don't want people pissed at me! Ha ha
As for home security- I have about 6 streaming cams at the shack that give me views of the snow and interior to watch my weather station to make sure the heat is on etc...
I use Dlink cams and have the Dl930l cams and they at $30 for color steaming video live 24/7!
All you need is a wifi connection and a monkey could hook them up! They are wireless and just need to plug into an outlet! They are for interior only tho! I even have one that looks at the gas pump at Kruppsmart so when I wake up I don't even have to go to the window to see if there is a line at the pump! Lol
The cams I use for my JD cam was like $25 and the software I use that hooks it to Johndee.com is called Kabcam I think and that was $30 !
I think there is some free software out there too!
Mr Dee then has to put it on his site!
Windy eh

Thanks for the offer Mike! It looks like the lost pines lodge does not even maintain their website any more, as the domain is available for purchase. So probably a lost cause there. The Sister Lakes cam might be able to benefit from some help, I just do not have any way to reach out to them to see what is the matter.

I would appreciate any and all help though!

As a "once and famous" career software injuneer and bit stomper, I'm just very disappointed at what I see in web cams generally. That's at least one reason I don't have one, as I'd just want it to "work, dammit" without my constant attention and hand feeding.

One can also configure and use another PC as a "remote console" for the one "back at the cabin" that handles the web cam, and I've certainly used that feature, but not specifically with a web cam. Is that of any use in keeping one's web cam alive and well? Or does a web cam still need regular hands on "diaper changing" and what not?

Speaking of web cams…
I hadn't looked at the MTU web cams in some time.

Holy sox, Batman, have they ever got their act together! Check these out:

(For you Windoze PC users, I strongly recommend you download, install and use the (click →) Google Chrome browser to view these, rather than that accursed (click →) Shockwave (a.k.a. Adobe) Flash, may it burn in "a very hot fiery furnace"!)

  1. Campus Cam—Motion (looking from the west end of the MTU campus toward the east).
  2. View Cam—Motion (looking west from the MTU campus across east Houghton toward the bridge).
  3. Tech Fund Cam—Motion (looking from high atop the all glass First Merit Bank building, 400 Quincy St, Hancock, past the bridge toward the MTU campus).
  4. Ripley Cam—Streaming (looking north, across the Portage Canal from the MTU Campus to the Ripley ski hill).
  5. Ski Hill Cam—Motion (a closeup view of the action on the Mont Ripley ski hill).
… and many others (click →) here. (many other cams, with still images, motion, time lapse and some streaming).

How'd y'all like to have some web cams like these in JD's Northwoods Cam Network?

(Hmmm, I wonder what resources would be required to support that?)
