Need a new helmet

last year I struggled to find a decent helmet... I ride 50% on 50% off and I wanted a helmet to do the same.

Last year I had 509 delta R3 1.0 -HATED it then complained about it and they sent me a new delta r3 2.0...

and its the best helmet I have ever had. ride 40-50 miles to get to the fun zone take off the heated visor and throw on the heated 509 ignite goggles and go have a blast. get stuck. make it back to the trail. throw back on the heated shield and then typically ride 40-50 miles back home. the only complaint I currently have about the helmet is the 1/4 turn heated shield cable is lacking durability. but I change my shield often. now I just have two cables that stay independently with the shields and life is great.

if you have a problem with 509, in my experience they will make it right. now they have a customer for life.

Been fighting that one my entire career...never find one that's completely comfortable.... hat size = 8 3/8 or 8 1/2 depending upon mfg....and virtually NOBODY makes helmets that size...

509 altitude 4x with sinister x5 XL ignite goggles with arctic chin curtain - my bro uses that setup -

I have the BRP Modular 3, BVS2 and now the Oxygen. My wife and Mother went in together and bought me the Oxygen this past Christmas since they saw me looking at it online one day. I'm hard to buy for so they jumped on the idea. Good for me. I wasn't sure I would have bought it on my own, but am happy they did. It's now my go to helmet mostly due to the fact I no longer have to use the nose mask with the snot mop. Not a fan of the cable but you get used to it. the magnetic mount does work well and it is easy to attach to the helmet. Prior to the oxygen I would use the modular 3 almost always since I love the concept of the helmet and it's easy to put on. BVS2 was reserved for the really cold rides. The oxygen is every bit as warm as the BVS2 but you can crack the shield easier with the oxygen which is nice when you have to cool off. At this point I can't see ever using the BVS2 again and will keep it for a spare or if I have a guest ride with us who doesn't have any gear of their own. Yes, the oxygen is expensive but my head is worth it :rolleyes3:

Lots of good tips here. I'll look into them. I've gotten use to the electric shield so the cord doesn't bother me. Guy I ride with lost a cord last trip so I can see that happening.

I like the idea of the dual sport ones so you can have the option to use goggles.

Don't know much about it and I am sure someone can answer better than I can. I took a quick look at it and I would say it is more of a motorcycle helmet. I did not see a breath deflector or breath exhaust system. Also, the shield appeared to be a single pane, but not sure. Those things are needed to help prevent fogging in colder temperatures.

Anybody have the Bell evo revolver modular helmet?

For some reason HJC stopped including the chin curtain on the "snow" helmet. If you buy the chin curtain it helps but the helmet still allows way too much air to flow through.

Thanks...finally tried on the Bell really liked the helmet but didnt fit my fathead...they only make a 2x need a 3x. Tried on couple hjc helmets ,want more color so i went with a Castle x cx950 blitz .

How's the sizing for the castle compared to HJC? I'm leaning towards a Castle and am coming off an HJC. Heading up next mid-March so I have a little time but need to order soon in case it doesn't fit.

I ordered the castle x from flyncycle. They told me the sizesare the same as hjc. I didnt get to try the castle on but told me id have it in a day or two. Free shipping and cheaper then the catalog said it was

That Castle modular, dual sport-looking helmet is made by Scorpion - even has the same model number, I believe - so you might want to check out the Scorpion version for different graphics/features/price point/etc. Scorpion helmets aren’t a familiar name in sledding, but they are a decent mid-level brand in the motorcycle realm. Maybe like a better version of HJC.

I’ve always wished the premium helmet brands like Arai, Shoei, or Schuberth would enter the sled market, but that’s never happening it appears. The new Shoei modular with a dual lens heated shield would be awesome.

I will not have a helmet without a sun visor & heated sheild. My Wife & I like our Arctic TXi helmets.

Next season we will probably be upgrading to the 509 Delta R3 2.0

Sun Visor, Heated Shield, drop down amber/rose lens for those flat light & super sunny days, and lighter weight than the TXi. A lighter weight helmet is a big plus on those longer rides.

That one looks really nice. I'm still looking at that and the similar styles from Castle and Gmax. I've been leaning Castle (X mode dual sport) since the price is middle of the road on those three and I've heard good things about them. Gmax (GM11S) is tempting too as it's quite a bit cheaper. I haven't looked into the safety rating on all of them yet. I'd definitely get electric shields on any them.

We love our 509 Delta R3 2.0's . The only issue we have is the air leaking in around the bottom of the shield. Contacted 509 via email and they asked if I could slide a piece of paper thru the seal when it was closed, I could. They said this was a warranty issue and he started a warranty ticket for us. He (John) told us due to low supply and being prime riding to use the helmets for the rest of the season and then send them back and we will get a full credit to our 509 account for all 3 helmets. He said that they are fixing the seal issue on new helmets and our credit never expires so we can wait till fall and get the 2020 helmets.

Sounds like they are trying to get it right.

Castle X Dual sport, well vented, nice semi rigid breath deflector, wide view of sight, front of helmet dips down plenty room between mouth and front of helmet, large chin curtain not always rubbing under chin, visor helps greatly on sunny days, flip down yellow sun shield, heated visor, well padded. Have a larger noggin so hard to find helmet that really fits well, gave this one a try and like it very much!

Hoosier - Mrs. Parker and I were HJC people too. Needed Upgrades and went with Castle CX-950's w/E shield. I agree with everything in the above quote. I also bought the accessory Smoked Flip-Down Shield .. NICE ! My review is based on using it all last year.

I ordered one of these castle cx-950 helmets and was excited to try something different. Didn't even put it into service. No twist lock plug in on the heated shield and no quick release on the chin strap. No reason for a high dollar helmet to not have those features!! What do I try next???? That oxygen helmet looks interesting...
