Need a super small boat motor

I have a 12 foot flat bottom boat. I'm looking to buy a small electric motor or a small gas motor 5hp or less. This is simply to go from a boat landing to our "spot" on a small lake by my house. The total distance may be about 200 yards or so one way. The cheaper the better. I've found a couple but they were a tad to big. I'm trying to get us going regularly to the fishing hole and am sick of rowing out there. Not that big of a deal but I remember having one of those little Minkota motors B4 and it would have been perfect for this.

They are available...in both gas and electric. Personally, I would opt for the electric...it is quiet, doesn't require fuel...and would more than do what you want done. Just won't go too fast.

If you go with the gas powered, look for a small 3hp twin cylinder. They run smoother than a single cylinder motor and they aren't very expensive...like this....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-hp...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item1c12881987

I own two of these and they are perfect for what you describe.

If you go with a minn kota and you don't have a plug at the dock or landing add the cost for a solar charger .I have one on a deep cycle that runs a older minn kota on a paddle boat at the cabin I don't have to carry a heavy azzz battery up 30+ stars.I got a cheep one under 50 bucks at cabelas going on 3 yrs it is automatic so it wont overcharge I think the battery and charger cost 3x what the garage sale trolling motor was.

My neighbor has two 4hp motors for sale. One is a very nice Merc that was totally reconditioned for $400. The other is a Yamaha I think, that's in a little rougher shape for $150. Shoot me a note if you are interested. We are in Monticello MN though.... But he heads up to northern MN a lot, and is a sales guy and might even get over your way sometime, or get close anyway.

I'm hoping it works out.

Thanks soooooo much for the pawn shop idea

I have a 4 hp Johnson Seahorse with 6 hours on it. Just had it at the shop for a check up. New fuel lines for that ethanol and a new plug. Runs great. Just put it up for sale.
