Need Clutching Advice

I have a 2005 xc sp 500 with a 136" track geared 20 40. I would like just a little more low end I got a slight bog right now. I don't want to lose a lot of top end some will benessaryI'm sureto getrid of thebog.I read a lotof Clutching 101 threads and have a idea about things. So I was thinking if I went to a higher helix stiffer secondary spring it would giveme a littlemore hole shot and faster back shifting. Should I stop there or should I do new weights and different springs on both clutches? I will be replacing the springs anyway as they haven't been since I had the sled which was 2 yrs 1800 miles ago.

Any opinions are appreciated! TIA.

I also have an 05 xc sp 500 but with 121"x2" paddle track stock gearing stock weights and helix but an EPI red primary and EPI orange secondary spring. It engages at roughly 4600 rpms and is VERY snappy. I don't see a reason to go any heaver on the weights unless you went to an aftermarket weight like an SLP mtx, 58 g is already heavy enough for the 500 motor. that motor likes to run up to 83/8400 rpms but the 58s should keep it at around 8100 which is fine if your not lake racing and gives it some more snap.

When it engages that high can you ease into it if you want? I don't want it to be so snappy that if I'm in deep snow I just dig myself into a hole either.

I wouldnt want my sled to engage over 4000 rpm if i am going to be doing any off trail riding, it just seems that it engages a little bit to hard and causes the track to dig. If you are trying to get a little bit more on the low end of things i would start with putting a little bit less stiff of a spring in the primary. If that isnt enough you could change the helix and spring in the secondary along with changing your weights. it is very impressive what just a spring will do.

Maybe I'm being too picky, but I want the most out of it. Right now I'm thinking a little stiffer primary to engage a little higher but not a lot. There's a happy medium between jack rabbit starts and where I am now. That's where I want to be. I think I'm going to put the Polaris Almond spring in. Nearly the same as I got now on top but a little higher engagement.

I do very little trail riding so engagement over 4 grand, I think, is out of the question.

i guess i dont have any problems with it off trail but im no dedicated off trail rider either... i like the high engagement for trail riding, thats the only feel of power i can get out of that 500 motor LOL it sure dont rip your arms off at any other rpms like my 700 does.

So can you ease into it, or is it pretty much spinning as soon as it engages?? If you can ease into it or putt around the yard if you want I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Maybe excessive track speed at engagement takes alot higher rpm's than you are at? Idk this is why I'm asking, I don't want to change out springs a dozen times to get where I want to be lol.

I don't seem to have any problems with the high engagement in powder but i do have a 2" track depends on how much traction you can really get. EPI recommends this spring for our motor and i love it but its personal preference.

Alright I will have to look into them. When I bought this sled I was in college and I was only going to buy the red n white one if i was going to spend the money. Every time i saw one it was sold so I jumped on this 500 when it was still available, should've waited for a 6 or better yet the 700. Haha.

I feel the exact same way. Mines the black hood but i got a smoking deal on mine.

go through you clutches clean and inspect buttons also. the springs could be tired but if your replacing them it shouldnt be an issue.
