Yeah, I have the tool. Made one years ago out of a long screw driver. My issue is being able to see the springs in the area of the exhaust pipe and the muffler without taking off the hood. Abe says he's able to work the problem from the open side panel, I'll have to give that a try.

Hey guys, it’s really not that big of a deal to take the hood off, if you get a cordless with a T 25 socket (I think that is the size) all them screws are really easy to remove, the hood just slides right off, kind of like riding a bicycle the first couple times you might wipe out a little bit but once you’ve done it a few times it’s a piece a cake

Just so you know the battery is back of seat 2019 900t I ran cables out the back to charge or jump to any jumper source. Some have a plug for maintenance chargers. Also can pop the seat via levers to get at battery but I don’t like messing with heated seat harness. Easy peasy.

Just get a spring tool, or make one out of a long flat blade screwdriver.

To make one, you just grind a little notch in the end of the screwdriver for pushing, and grind an angled notch in the side for pulling.

And make sure you have a long handled magnet because if you’re anything like me, you drop the last spring you’re putting on and it falls beneath the muffler or in the engine bay.
Very true, spot on you are!

I did not need to pull the exhaust to get the battery out of my 2018. Oil change yes, battery no. If you remove the screw in post 35, it should "slip" out. Search Dootalk for lots of info on this if you need.

You only have to remove to remove 1 exhaust spring to remove the oil filter. The key is to separate the filter from the cap for removal and installing from the side panel. 1272520233_20220101_121644_2270243_resized.jpg

Yes, for oil and filter change only. However, when I service the chaincase, change the lube, and check chain tension, I remove the "crazy, too large" muffler. This makes it much easier.
