If yamaha would build (yes, it's possible) the sleds in the right price range they would own the market. What doesn't make since to me is they make these "snocross style" sleds like the nytro which is aimed at the 20-30 yr old person as the market but they price it such that people 45+ are the ones that can afford it.....the logic is backwards.

Maybe a 130hp phazer under 7K, now your talking.

It almost seems like the manufacturers are killing themselves by thinking they can just keep jacking the prices...good luck with that philosophy.

Arctic Scrap's sno pro 500 is well over $8000.00 @ 85 HP.
$15,000 is hard to swallow, though.

Yea, you say power steering? wait till you try it! I own an atv with it and just love the power steering.
You can ride all day and not get as sore with the power steering.
Good choice Yamaha!

I am one of those guys that bought the $7600 cat sno pro 500 with the 85hp, i'll run that sled up against the $15,000 boat anchor Apex...... 0-70 mph the SP rocks, yes the sled gets flat between 70-85....but how much faster do you have to go.......when riding in the woods, nothing will stay with this "lite" sled and it's half the cost of the Apex Se............and 100lbs +++ less in weight. When you boil it down, we have about 100 days a year to ride in the upper midwest in a perfect season.....15K is a huge amount of cash for that short amount of time.......****, $7600 is a lot of $$$$$$ for that time of riding.... I guess it boils down to "each his own"........snowmobiles with "power steering" is great for the girlfriend or wife........

Well on a 300 mile trail ride in the UP that 500 wouldn't even be in the same county as the Apex it would be so far behind. Two totally different sleds built for different purposes. Who would buy a 500 SP to trail ride with or an Apex to ditch bang????? The funny thing is die hard Yamaha trail riders will suck this new sled up and not even bat an eyelash at the price. That's how most Yammie 4 stroke owners I know are...

The sad thing is that for $14,000 for a new Yamaha can they get a new color other than blue you need a flashing light on your sled when you park it so you can find it. In the last 7 years all the Yamaha's look alike sad I hate the blue color on them boring.
At least the other 3 brands make other colors not one same boring blue.

dude...seriously?? this is a completely ignorant post. go look at thier sled colors over the last several years.

I am a dedicated Yamaha rider but have to say I am disappointed in their 2011 lineup. They revolutionized the market in the 2005-2008 model years with the Apex, Phazer, & Nytro lineups. For concurrent model years, there should at least be an effort made to tune suspensions and tackle issues plauging their riders. With Yamaha pulling their race support efforts and using moderate graphic changes for this year, it seems as though they are not listening to their customers. People don't just spend 10-15K to get the newest graphics with moderate styling changes. It really is no wonder why sales are struggling.

Arctic Cat is a perfect example of fine tuning a model as they have done with the M. The introduction in 2005 revolutionized the mountain market but reliability issues just about killed the sled in its first year. They have repeatedly improved the sled each year and now it rules the market. You can't move out west without being swarmed by M-chassis. Just my two cents.

they have continued to 'fine tune' their line-up. they did not simply change graphics and add price. that is an unfair statement. they have listened to alot of the their customers complaints. these words will always be true "you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time". you'll never get 'everyhing you want'. as for the cat m- chassis. totally agree. but fact remain...80% of riders 'trail ride'. i would rather have no other trail sled then a yamaha...especially the new one. as for price, the SE is really the only hi-dollar sled, but that's cause your getting the fox floats. with a bit of patience you can wait one or two years and pick up a brand new left over for literally several thousand less.

Yamaha did listen to there people. Mono II suspension, better hand warmers, better wind protection, better muffler, EPS for darting and new skis. The only problem I have is the price tag.
