Haven't ridden one yet but have been waiting for some feedback. Hoping it can run with the doo 850.

Just buy a Doo 850, no?
BTW what does "run with it" mean?...top end it?... in the woods?.....in the Sat. PM moguls?
Pro cross is probly the best all around chassis since it came out....durable, feels light and decent ride.
And as far as engine longevity....Doo and Poo have been chasing Cat for a decade....imo

Actually good question. My idea of "run with" ( at least at this point in my life) just means it's close to top end, mid range and out of hole...it doesn't have to necessarily beat it and the ride has to be similiar. I have my cat 800 setup , for my comfort, really dialed in but it took some time. The 800 cat engine has definitely been a quality engine and hopine it keeps it that way. As for the 850, it's definitely in the running for my next sled, I rode one a couple of weeks ago and very impressed with it. I have til next December to get a sled so I am just researching and taking my time.

I'm thinking if the c tec 800 gets a couple more mpg and is a touch faster across the board, it's a hit.

I'm just asking an honest question, how many people really care about MPG? Seriously. If I ride 1000 miles and get 100 miles to a tank compared to 150 a tank ( thinking liberally) thats 7 tanks to 10 tanks. It's approx under $100 more for the season, is that really a big deal? Just wondering if this is a big consideration for buyers?

I did not intend to ---- anyone off. I just said that I did not think it would get the mpg's of the Etech. I base this on how the Ctec 600, and Etech 600 preform. I for one do appreciate good mpg. It all depends where you ride. We ride places that mpg matters alot, and it's not the money end of it.

Not putting the MPG high on my personal list, although any increase is welcomed, especially for those that pack on the miles! What I do want to see is all the improvements Cat has made with this motor along with the world class reliability of the lay down 800 Zuke

Old abe, no your post didn't p### people off and I hope mine didn't either. My response wasn't meant to be mean hearted, hope it didn't come off that way.

C Tec2 won't get close to Etec mpg.

I would be a non-buyer if mileage is not competitive with E-tec.
I recently sold my 850 (do this every year) and looked at the XCR and was told by Dealer that gas mileage was not even close to E-tec.
I need the gas mileage as I ride alone about 50/50 and the last thing I want to do is stop for gas one extra time per day or run out. Think the Munising to Paradise, MI roundtrip run, you only need gas in Paradise. Any other 2 stroke and you are stopping two more times.

My 800 AXYS ran within a half gallon of my buds 800 etec and I weigh about 150 more pounds than he does. I don't think that is to bad? Plus i am the leader and I feel that takes a bit more gas!

It's not the money... It's the range.

Gas stations close and having to always plan your route around gas pumps is annoying.

It's not as if a 600cc sled is going to lack power, it's WAY more than what you can do with it on a trail.

The manufactures make 800 for two reasons. #1 - Mountains. You lose a ton of horsepower in the reduced oxygen levels in the mounts. #2 - profit. Do you really think it costs the manufacturer another $1500 to make the pistons and cylinders 25% bigger? It doesn't, they make a ton of profit off on the added cost of maybe $50 to $100 in metal.

Unless you race on lakes, go off trail extensively or ride in the mountains, an 800 just sucks 25% more fuel and you get nothing out of it.

uh my friend..u r loopy..i max my 800 out at 113 this year..to say there is no difference between a 600 and an 800 is just plain wrong..i bend corners on 3 at the speed a 600 tops out at..no offense meant please

I said, racing on a lake or riding in the mountains.

What good is 113 mph for most people? You can hardly exceed 60 mph on the trails unless it's a perfect straight away. My sled does 94 mph as it is.

You are not going 90+ mph around any corner. You are probably not going 60 mph around many corners.

Things didn't work out for me to ride with Dan a couple weeks ago, but several here have ridden with him and I bet he's pulling close to 90 on some of those long sweeping corners in the middle of the night after the groomer has run the trail and he can see headlights a long way away.

As for me, I've had a couple 800's, got a 600 now and for the type of riding I do the 600 is fine. If I come across a good deal on an 800 I wouldn't hesitate to go back to one though.

Sweeping corners, sure... I can nearly hit 90 on my sled too. It's a matter of physics though. Unless you have the ski width, you are going to hit a tree and get splattered at the speeds a 600 Etec can accomplish. The 800 is good for racing, mountains and deep powder. If you aren't doing any of the 3, it's just a waste of fuel and money.

I end up passing half the 800r's I see on the trails as it is. They buy them because their buddy said a 600 is a chick sled and that's just feeding into a dumb stereotype.
