New Friends + Snowy Mountains = Awesome Trip 3/3-3/6

In my opinion the trip was perfect, I hooked up with "Yamadude" and "Walldoo" from the JD site and we went out together without ever meeting before, thanks John Dee!!! We had set-up snow the first 2 days and freshy, freshy the last 2 days. Even on the first 2 days we could find plenty of powder in the tree's but anything open was tracked up like crazy. I call this kind of condition ,"Hero Snow" because you can go anywhere and climb anything which we did - also you can get alot of good stuff on the GPS for when conditions are perfect.
This trip will go down as one of the best snowmobile trips I have ever taken and want to thank John Dee again for having this site to meet new people and make my sledding experience all that much more memorable. As you will see when I post some pics meeting people came easy. On day one we met some guys from Illinois that frequent John Dee's site and rode some with them, awesome dudes. On the morning of day 2 we met up with Tony who was from Iowa, drove out by himself and was just looking for someone to ride with when he found us - ended up riding with us the rest of the trip and on day 3 we hooked up with "Highmarker" from Dootalk.com who is a local from around the area and he showed us some kick *** stuff. He also brought his buddy Ely who gave us a great show when he launched his sled into a 10 foot deep "Meadow Hole" and tore it up but was able to ride out very sore I might add. Guys (and Gals) it was a sweet trip. If you are ever thinking about going west with or without your normal riding group, JUST DO IT... You only live once!!

Yamadude has also posted some pics in Guestshots '09-'10 under "Snowy's Trip"

I've got quite a few pics to put up...

.

Pic 1: You can see how deep the snow/powder was that we found in the tree's
Pic 3: Some fellow JD guys from Illinois that we came across on day 1. They were ripping it up on some of the Snowy Range Tours rental sleds.
Pic 5: The Mule Deer were bedding right outside our lodge room window in an un-occupied house's yard. Only out west!!

Pictures don't do justice but in the "moonset over the mountain" picture the sun was rising to the east and it was shining an awesome pinkish/purple light over the hillside.

Also, how bout the tracked up snow on 7 fools... There was some pretty serious ruts dug in on the hillside and with it having icy hardpack under the small amount of fresh stuff coming down was super fast and bumpy. Take into account that we started on the far right side of 7 fools and had already made several climbs up and down and my little a** was worn out. I admitted to the gang that the "pine tree thing" was dumb and would not have happened if I would have taken a break between climbs, but I was just plain worn out and not driving my sled like I should have - I let it take me for ride!! All was well because I only scraped against some tree limbs but it was enough to buck me off (and yes we are aware that only one rider is to be on the mountain at a time but this hardpack wasn't going anywhere).

These shots are taken at the summit of the highest peak around... it was almost 12,000 feet and on this sunny day it felt like you were on top of the world!! All time best snowmobiling scenery day for me...
Thats me in all black, and from left to right in group shot - Tony (from Iowa), Joe (Yamadude), and Bill (Walldoo), good dudes.

Finally some fresh snow and a new Summit 154" for me to play on...

Pic 1: My new toy for the rest of the trip and some new friend's to ride with - "Highmarker" (Joe) and his buddy Ely.
Pic 2 & 3: Ely being the entertainer that he was launched his sled into a "meadow hole" just to give us mid-westerner's something to talk about. No seriously be careful playing in the middle of meadows with low visibility.
Pic 4: Here's a group pic after getting Ely's sled out - lots of digging and 2 snowbunje's.
Pic 5: Doesn't it seem like Joe's sled is stuck alot - Just Kidding Joe... You started it with the "pine tree pics" in your Snowy Pic's post, Ha-Ha.

Wow I took to many pics...

Joe was not about to leave any fresh powder untouched!!!

Love it out west, tree's growing out of rocks, Sweet.

The pic taken from inside the truck is the view as you are coming into Centennial from the staging area parking lot up on the mountain.

That's all I got!!

Well I'm putting up a few more. Here's the visible damage from the "rock impact". It hit my right ski square in the middle of the ski directly under the spindle. The force was both back and up which slightly twisted the front end and actually broke the main "webbing" structural piece that connects the nose of the sled with the "box" or area that houses the engine. I'm still waiting to hear from my mechanic buddy to see what he found when he ripped the sled apart. Hopefully its only what I see which is a pretty easy fix. What sucks is I had just finished building this sled a month earlier and have only had it out twice, both west trips. I had planned on one more west trip for the end of this month but I have to save my money for the fix (and I just spring checked a new Summit).
