New Sled Advice for crossover sled

137 1.6 cobra works well on and off trail on the Axys pro S 800.
Snowflap/shovel replaced with more flexible material helps off trail.
One track obviously way easier than switching out.

to the OP.....are you aware of the clutching problem when switching back and forth from a 1.25 to a 2.5...? and or a clipped track vs a fully clipped track??? theres a thread going around where only .05 % of responders know or believe this and you need to understand or get past that issue first...no dig....just a simple question so we don't waste band width.....LMAO

I am riding a Yamaha 137 with a 1.75 track. It has 8000 miles on the track and looks almost new. I would just try and so 1 track save the money for riding or aftermarket things you may want.

Going to have to do a lot more than simple clutch tuning if he goes from a 1.25 to a 2.5....

I was never planning on going to a 2.5 track. I "guess" i was thinking more of a stock 1.25 to a 1.75 track (2 inch seemed a little much but if it works a maybe).

just make sure theres no football on!!!hahahahhaahah wont need either:eek-new:

Well, when you put on 17 miles in a day during playoff weekends I could have ridden my bike! i wouldn't change those days though, good times!!

Gearing down is optional a tooth but not a must unless your going to a 2 inch or more track. 1.75 i would consider a tooth or 2 but if primarily trail riding wont he an issue. Ride them all and make the call. I cannot reccomend the G4 enough this sled is the real deal. Give it a chance preferebly back to back with another 800.

I did get a chance to ride a 850 MXZ this year and was very impressed. I have a 2012 F8, which i really enjoy riding, but the new 850 had much more engine response and handled the trails extremely well. I felt like i had to actively "ride" my sled where the 850 jsut handled much better. I 850 gade is definitely in the running.

One thing to consider if going with a suspension longer than 137 is that they are usually optimized for offtrail. My 141" XF does not ride as well on the trails as my buddies 137 even though I have done a lot of work in new springs, shock revalving, Hygear linkage mod, etc. Unless you are going to the mountains all the time, don't sacrifice everything for offtrail.

it does not matter what size lugs you change to....if a 1.25 is dialed in at a certain RPM and you swap out for a 1.375....the RPMs will now be different...so will engagement....top end....and the power band....all different now and what worked well wont work as good now....and that track...those cupped lugs...look at yer lugs shape now on it....and imagine you sliding sideways...which shape reduces side slide more...which relates to PUSH in the corners or slippery feeling and like ya need studs....the cupped 1.6 holds the trail better than your shaped lugs do by far...without studs...which also raises the RPMs...throw on studs and now you need more RPMs to turn that extra weight to achieve same RPMs

where did all the drive train ratio idiots go? you idiots learning anything yet.....LOL

Ski Doo Renegade or Polaris Assault. Assault comes with Cobra 1.6. Renegade get the WT Lite (formerly Charger). Awesome 1.5" track - good for everything. Or if you do more off trail get the Backcountry - comes with 1.75" but narrower stance.

The Doo is a 1.6 Cobra and the Assault gets the 1.352 Cobra. Both are super capable. Would be nice to see that 1.6 Cobra as an option on the Assault.

OP- Get the 1.75 or the 1.6 Cobra or Cobra Ice Track and forget about it. I can't say enough about my Cobra Ice Track

Here is a concept for you. Most crossover riders are not dead set on the "Gotta beat my buddy" mentality. The new bread of rider forward sleds in the 144" ranger have proven to be capable on and off trail. The new Polaris Switchback SP would be a great option! The longer footprint of the 144 will help more in the deep snow than a 1.75 X 137 and will also do a great job at bridging bumps when trail riding. It has a slight tip up at the back of the suspension rail to help the sled corner like shorter sleds. Certainly a comfortable sled with great ergonomics and the most user friendly on those off trail moments!

Agree best of both worlds is a 144 tipped to 136 for trails. Not sure what vintage sled you are intending to purchase or brand but there are 144 tipped platforms available.

Tipped or not, IMO, negligible difference in 136 vs. 144 on the trail. They both felt the same in the corner to me.-Mezz

I currently ride a F800 with a 129 track. I ride mainly trails but really enjoy unplowed logging roads and some off trail riding. I am looking into upgrading sleds this off season and would like to get a 137 track. So, I am looking for a crossover sled with good trail capabilities and be sufficient off trail. My idea is purchase a 137 with a standard 1.25 track and purchase a deeper lug track to use on my one trip that we go mainly off trail. One sled, two tracks. Good idea/bad idea? Looking for insightful input on this.

Buy a new 2017 Renegade 600; pretty much $9,500 anywhere you look; 15x137x1.25 track.

Thats just another over priced DOO....600 this time...POO XCR 600 are 8600 as will stomp a mogul into a Doo 6

FYI S.B., XCR is a short track; this discussion is about 137's.
Any good Polaris owner will know that, and a few Ski-Doo guys too.
