I posted on a different thread that some friends of mine took a trip in the UP this spring, bought a pass and was told that next season it will 55.00 dollars. Is this true? I talked to them this weekend and doubled checked and they said that's what the deal is.
Can some correct me on this or was this miss information. Thanks

Not true

Maybe with Wisconsin being $50 at least the Michigan trail sticker thread will die a needed death.

To each their own on where and what they like to ride. I have found wonderful trails in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Have also found crap trails in all of them as well, but the thing is, I don't remember them nearly as well as the great trails, no matter where they were!

I know I will not spend my summer sweating what a trail pass will cost next year in any state.

" The bill provides that the fee for a trail use sticker issued
for a snowmobile that is registered in this state is $14.25 if the snowmobile is owned
by a snowmobile club member and $34.25 if the owner does not belong to a
snowmobile club. "

Plus $.75 for the vendor= $15.00/member and $35.00/non member

I don't know where you found this info., or how old this info is, but it is not correct.

It is $10 for members and $30 for non-members.

For all you complaining about the cost of the permit my club just borrowed $63000 to trade up to a new tractor to pull our new $7000 drag(paid out of our club money). The clubs get up to $250 per mile of funded trails and that amount hasn't changed since diesel was $1.50 a gallon and Wisconsin didn't raise the registration fee either.

I hate extra stickers and wish they would raise the registration and just have out of state sled fees but that's not what happened so we have what we have for the next 4 years.

I have no problem with anyone that want's to bypass Wi and go to MI. I have been there in the past and road good trails and bad trails also. I'll stay in Wi unless there is NO snow at all and then maybe go to MI.

There are way too more Ricky Racers in MI on any given weekend then in the part of WI I ride in and on many occasions we see fewer then 10 sleds on the trails all day. I feel much safer here and enjoy the ride much more.

I belong to a club so I now will pay $5.00 more next year. Big whoopy, I think I can afford that increase, it will buy a gallon of fuel for the groomer.

Quit complaining about the cost of sledding on your $10000 sled or stay home on the couch or lazy boy. It's supposed to be fun so have some fun and be safe.

I always enjoy the sled price argument when discussing the price of permit. The funny thing about a sled is that the first year it costs me $10,000. The next year it costs me $5,000. The next year it costs me $3,333. and so on and so on and so on until I sell it. Then I take the sale amount out of the $10,000 and make the adjustments. The sled always have some value to it, the permit doesn't after the expiration date. So while you are comparing price to price, you are not comparing their valves after a season of use. Now, I'm not complaining about the $50.00/yr. for the permit because that's where I normally ride. However, my question is, and I can't seem to find answer, is it is more beneficial to the clubs if I continue to register in the state of Wisconsin even though I'm not a resident and if I do continue to register in the state am I eligible for the $30 permit? Or is it the $50 permit either case? (Hopefully I asked the question the right way.)

xsledder...to answer your question. It benefits the clubs either way. With the new system, all of the money goes to trail funding rather then some "general" state fund. As mentioned before, this is a huge shot in the arm for snowmobiling in Wisconsin. The clubs which are the heart of the trail system in Wisconsin are folding left and right because they can no longer afford the equipment or pay for the needed trail maintenance. The clubs have been working on the same $250 per funded trail mile for at least the last 12 years with no increase in funding. The clubs get zero money for all of the feeder trails that lead to the hotels and your favorite stops other wise known as club trails. For many years the clubs have had to resort to some serious fund raising in order to keep trails open. The $250 per mile covers trail maintenance. It does NOT cover the cost of grooming equipment or their repairs. Clubs purchase their equipment on their own through fund raising activities. We are very appreciative to all of the generous riders that drop money in our map boxes and grooming fund boxes. Unfortunately that has not been nearly enough to cover the cost of operating a club and maintaining a club. There is $50,000 to $100,000 + for equipment, $2000 + per year for insurance, plus trail maintenance, fuel and repairs. The current $250 per funded mile does not go very far. No one likes fee increases. But it is absolutely necessary for snowmobiling to survive in Wisconsin. When you look at your overall cost to ride each year, this increase is probably about 1% of what you spend in a season.

Well stated Gary its hard to think with inflation the way it is that there have been in increases to the funding in that many years.

i cant think of one good reason to snomo in wisconsin...i dont even step foot out of my truck when headin to the U.P... yuck, the land of dairy farms in the air...ride wisconsin, and lose your will to live, if a serial killer doesnt get you 1st...

next time you wake up feeling good about life, just remember you live in Illinois and god hates you so he put you in IL,

And when everyone you meet from illinois that says they are from the "west suburbs" sounds like a douche trying to church up the fact that they live in a **** hole state surrounded by other equally arrogant people.

also keep in mind **** runs down hill...like to the flat lands of IL.

have a good day.

Too many people, too many intersections in northern wi and too many road crossings and corn fields south of hwy 64 I don't ride much trails any more anyways but I'm probably not even going to bother buying a WI trail pass just registration. I won't want my 15 RMK out in the plowed fields anyhow.

Hey Indy, that is greatnews as we don't want your RMK tearing up the trails in Wisconsin anyway. It kills me to see all the mountain specific sleds on the trails now days and of course tearing up the ditches and hill sides until there isn't a square foot of untracked snow when you drive down a northwoods highway. Please, go the the UP and get a few more private landowners up in arms... although I always thought of you as a sensible kid and hopefully respectful and diligent of where you ride.

I heard some guy on talk radio in Central Wisconsin yesterday say he was going to rebel against the new trail pass. Said he's going to petition all landowners in his area to close off access to their land until the law is reversed. Now that right there is some funny stuff. Good luck!! Here's an idea....how about you join a club and get a greatly reduced rate? Some people have no clue the costs associated with trail and equipment upkeep. Snowmobiling is not a cheap sport, especially if you have 3 or 4 sleds to maintain, fuel up, register, etc....I get that. Bottom line is, if you choose not to join a club, and can't afford to play, give up the sport. That has a proven track record of keeping more money in your pocket.

Depth of snow may be one thing, but I beg to differ on trail conditions. If MI trail conditions blow WI out of the water, you need to venture around a little more. Not criticizing MI at all, but I don't think trail conditions beat us at all.

i have to agree

Hey, if I dumped every thread that I get bashed in, they would mostly be gone. Have you read the AXYS thread lately? I'm creepy among other things in that thread.

I think they mean creepy in a good way though Mark!

But seriously, skidoodoug, you are right, I think trees4traction400 might have gotten a bit out of line.

The whole WI vs. IL thing still cracks me up! Especially since I have lived in both!
