New Years Traffic

What's the sled traffic historically like around New Years? My son's working a "Christmas Camp" in Iron River from 12/26 -1/1 and I'm thinking about coming up to ride while he works. Probably wouldn't stay over by him, but would come to the Keweenaw. Figure there is some traffic but still wouldn't think it would be like the busy 3 day weekends in Jan and Feb.

Yes there is a lot of traffic, but the concentration is largely dependent upon how much and how widespread the snow really is...

We ride every year between Christmas and New Years...usually the secret is to get going early and get your stops in early to avoid crowds...

My experience hasbeen that it depends completely on where you go. If there is snow outside the kew...then it will lower traffic everywhere. But going elsewhere will insure that you get some good riding in and the traffic won't be any heavier than any other weekend in dah U.P. Some years there isn't enough snow to go.

During the Holidays you are going to have traffic in popular areas not so much in Iron county MI never very crowded but always less snow. After NY that next week is light traffic in Vilas then starts to build again & becomes a habit when conditions are good.

Just two more weeks Gary:) . A burger at the Wooden Nickel sounds good about now. Do you know where you are staying yet?

Gary, I would think you can deal with the traffic no matter where you decide to ride. The question is, do you want to sleep? A motel is no place to be, around or on, New Years if you want to sleep. We did it once. Never again.

I've got to think traffic may be a bit lighter than in recent years past as there are many more places with snow early this year so it should take some of the pressure off the usual places.

It sounds better than ever right about now! Not sure where I'll be, but I know I'll be solo for the first couple days so I'll be looking for someone. Plans may in fact be falling apart somewhat. It will be one of those last minute trips I have a feeling.

Good point, never even thought about that. I think if I'm up there that will be the night I may just have to head to the camp my son will be at so it won't be quite so wild.
