get a good back pack with a water bladder in it, to stay hydrated, and watch out for elevation sickness. Last year was my first year out west, (went to lava mt. lodge ) deffinately an avy class, and pat attention to your buddys and your surroundings. And have fun........

Good idea on the water bladder. I've been taking 2 water bottles with me every day out.

I've been out west mtn riding 4 trips, and hunting at 10k once, and just vacation once since I started this thread. Luckily I don't get elevation sickness, but heard it sucks. Though I will say, every time I go out, it gets easier as far as breathing and catching my breath. That first trip that started this thread, we ended up going to the snowies. Stayed at mtn meadow cabins. The cabins are at 10k and we only went higher riding. I was amazed at how easy I got out of breath.
