That's good news, but has anyone read what they get paid? No wonder the owner's were hesitant!

The agreement hinged on working out pension and retirement benefits for the officials, who are part-time employees of the league. The tentative pact calls for their salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019.

$205,000 divided by 16 games is $12,812.50 per game! That's crazy and most of these guys have a normal full time job. At next year's salary of $173,000, it's almost $11,000 per game. Plus they get pensions!! That's pretty good pay for working about 4 hours a week.

I'm sorry, with all the money the NFL is making, that's a drop in the bucket.

Worth it?

I'll be willing to bet there isn't a Packer fan on here that wouldn't think so. Oh, and even as a Vikings fan, I would agree completely.

I wonder what excuse the Packer fans will have for their loss to the Saints? Bounties, perhaps?

Employees get paid what employees are worth...market value, not hourly rate. After the refereeing debacle in the first three games I think it has been proven that the people who control the quality of the NFL product (referees) are worth it. Without this particular group of people, these specific people who have a skilled trade and are unique, the product quality suffered immensely.

BTW, I read that the net effect of the settlement was $100,000 per team.

Good at what they do for sure! Their piece of the pie really is small compared to players & coaches. 8 year deal so we won't hear about this again soon. :)

yeah yeah they are fool proof you people will give them 1 poss 2 games of honeymoon then the bitching will start again.
I can tell u this that 100k per team is not going to come out of the owners or players pockets it will be reflected in your beer your tickets etc etc.and how can it only be 100k per team? that is crap a pension of a guy pulling down 200k is 100k a yr or more and I am sure full med is in this deal.
I think the owners should have fired them all and rehired the ones who wanted there cushy jobs back at a 20k a yr loss.
most owners said there full time workers dont make what these guys make and deff dont get a pension.
