Bought used sled in WI and never registered it or paid tax in IL. I know dumb move....I did however register it in WI.
What are my option when selling it.
WI doesn't require you to title but IL does.

1. Can I sell it to someone in WI without an issue?
2. Can i create a current bill of sale and registered and title it in IL under my name with using the WI registration?
3. Can the new owner register it in IL with only the bill of sale i create?

side note: How does IL get away with taxing the same machine multiple times from different sales.

You'll be fine as long as the transactions are between two private parties in Illinois. Give the buyer your wisconsin registration and a bill of sale. The buyer can then register it where they want and will pay any tax due to his state if outside of illinois.

You bought a sled in WI and registered in WI.

I've registered similar sleds in Idaho which gives you both a registration and a title. had no problem with resale. from there you v
can register the sled just about anywhere.

You're fine. Just sign the registration card and hand it over. The buyer can register it anyplace he/she wants. I've only registered one sled in IL, and countless in WI due to the old registration/trail pass system there. I've sold sleds to people from IL, WI, MI and IA and none of them have ever called me back to express problems with registering the sled.

Just to protect myself, I always create a bill of sale to go with the registration card that says there is no lien on the sled, it's as is where is and that I'm no longer responsible for any actions regarding the sled. I make 2 copies, and always keep one in a file forever. I had a friend who had the Sheriff wake him up in the middle of the night once and told him his sled had crashed into a outbuilding on a farm and started a fire. The guy he had sold it to never registered it so they thought my friend still owned it and were going to charge him with all kinds of things. He went and pulled out that bill of sale and the Sheriff asked him to make a copy of it and told him no problem.

I have gotten a few letters over the yrs saying my registration was due 2 yrs after sold . I got a call about a abandon sled I had sold 8 yrs before .
I have thought about tracking them down in the past and just picking them up. if a guy is not responsible enough to put it in his name think he has a folder with his bill of sales ? according to the state u own it if it is in your name right?

Call Wi DNR they will delete you & that registration. I did this on my last trade in.

I started doing that . trade in I would assume dealer registers sled in new owners name unless it is consignment

I don't get why you can't delete sold vehicles on the WI website. We can register, pay sales tax & renew vehicles but not delete??

I always make sure I have the buyers name and address on my copy, then I put his phone number on it before I file it away. I figured if I documented the sale it's not my problem if he doesn't register it

I bought a used snowmobile in Michigan last year. I did register it in Illinois this year and did not have to pay tax. It took about 2 months to get a Illinois registration thats fast for Illinois

There's no tax in Illnoise on a private party used sled purchase. If bought from a dealer you only owe the tax difference between WI and IL... There's no titles issued in Illnoise for sleds either only registrations.

I was paging through the new MN snowmobile laws in line at the dmv today .
new this YR in MN U have 15 days from the transfer of ownership, an application for transfer must be executed by the registered owner and the purchaser using a bill of sale that that includes the serial # an owner must report the destruction or abandonment by written notice to the commissioner

I guess I don't remember paying tax when I registered in WI.
Anyways, I'm going to sell the sled using WI registration and bill of sale. The new owner will then register it in IL since he wants to ride it in IL. I never rode in IL, so there was no need for me to go through the IL registration process.
