North Shore riding 1/28-29

Went up to the cabin Thursday night and met some friends for some riding Friday and Saturday. The conditions were incredible. It snowed steadily while we rode on Friday and when it was all said and done I had about 15" of new snow at our cabin while just a few miles farther inland one of the resort owners said he ended up with 21". I bet there were spots where the snow depth was easily 48" or better. Of course thats in the woods were there is brush and crap underneath it. We ran the Baptism river and it was phenomonal. Got on some lakes on Saturday that we spent 1/2 hr on just carving back and forth. Unbelievable. Then we got to some clearcuts where we spent the whole day on Saturday and just tore them up. There were more stucks that I could count, including me. It was the best powder riding I have ever seen up there and compares well with trips I've been on out west for pure deep powder. We broke trail on some old two tracks that about kicked our butts. Spots we rode on Friday we couldn't even see out tracks again on Saturday.

Ubee, I don't know about the strong heart or back. That was me sitting on the sled in one of those pictures getting some rest after one of the many stucks.

Got a funny e-m this morning from buddy who rode the UP this past weekend .Not many riders in mn. bush to help out LOL! " We helped dig out some idiot that was stuck on Saturday north of Houghton MI. it took 8 men to push, pull and tug him out. I walked in to help and dropped into a swamp up to my waist. Next time I leave him there. 600 miles in three days, it was a great trip." lmfao!!

This was the most incredible snowmobile trip I have ever been on. I have been going up to this area riding with Elf for several years and this was truely the best riding I have ever had and we did not have to drive 18 hours to get it. THANK YOU NORTH SHORE!!!!!!!

Ubee, there's a lot of truth to that statement. Where we were riding on Friday and saturday we saw 1 other sled. He was just cruising down a forest road. We saw some sleds (very few) on the little bit of trail riding we did and saw some at the local establishments but back in the bush, we saw none. There were times I was real happy we had 4 of us along. The real funny thing is I checked my how many miles we rode on saturday and I had 36 miles on. I bet we were never more than 5 miles from Finland and if I actually had a GPS track going I would bet I truly only covered 15-20 miles and the rest was the track spin. It was crazy.

I rode from Duluth to Lutsen from 3pm-7pm Friday and hit the white out just North of Silver Bay, could only see 20ft ahead and had to drive slow the entire way, sometimes guessing where the trail was. The area in general from Lutsen to Silver Bay got about 12-20" that night. The conditions are epic up there now so if you have ever wanted to do the NSST now is the time. Saturday on the way back to Duluth I got to break trail on the Fox and Quail trail, what an experience that was...

I saw only 10-15 sleds Friday, Saturday, prolly more like 60-70.

Elf,

Those are some great pictures. I have to get up there soon. I have not been to the North Shore at all this year.

We'll be up there again this weekend. But I have the wife and kids along this weekend so probably not quite as much playing in the deep snow!
