North Shore riding/Pagami Creek fire area

Spent the weekend riding the North Shore. We rode out of Isabella each day and trails were hit and miss. The Tomahawk trail was OK down to the NSST while the Timberwolf Trail (powerline trail) from the Tomahawk to Finland was not good at all. The first day we rode up to Devils track lake and the NSST from about Tofte on was pretty good. The closer you got to Devils Track the better it was. The Expressway was really nice.

On Saturday we just rode fire roads up north of Isabella and they were great. There is a lot of logging going on so there are more plowed roads than I have seen in the past. We rode into the area the was burned last fall in the Pagami Creek Fire, 95000 acres. Amazing and sad sights. Burned trees as far as you can see. If you take off your helmet you can still smell the smoke smell. Get onto some lakes up there and it's green on one side and burned on the other.

Sounds like we rode a lot of the same area. Got up there Saturday evening and they groomed the Tomahawk as we went out at 5pm, so it was good again. Rode into the fire area Sunday, and yes, it is very erie.

Was told that there are areas that if you kick through the snow, it will start smoking right under your feet. Might not be a good summer up there this year again.
