Ok folks, you came thru for Ontonagon voting for the playground equipment. We need you once more.
As most of you know, Smurffit Stone recently closed the paper mill here in Ontonagon, a devestating blow to the whole west yoop. Our local officials have at least 3 very interested parties for this mill, but Smurffit Stone will not cooperate. Originally, they had stated that the mill would not be sold, after a small letter writing campaign forced a special meeting with the bankruptcy court they did agree they would consider a possible sale.
Our local leaders have at least 3 VERY SERIOUS potential buyers however Smurffit has not cooperated. They will not take calls, provide property-financial info, etc. James Jessup, our prosecuting attorney, is spearheading an effort to petition the court to force them to do so.
Here is what I am asking for. In the post below there is a letter written by Jessup. Paste it (or make your own version), sign it and mail it to the address shown. You do not need to be from this area to write. This is another example of big corporate America poo-pooing small town folks, and we need everyones help.
Jessup would like to see 1000 letters on the judges desk asap. I think we can do more than that. Please pass this along, post on Facebook, whatever. He (Jessup) met with a mill that had a similar situation a few years back and was able to reopen and is quite profitable now. Jessup is a smart man and believes we have a shot.
I have contacted Foxnews to see if they would cover it. If you have any national medial contacts....the coverage would be great too.
It is one stamp, 5 minutes of time...even if it is a waste, it is small. Please, take the time.
