Is there an outboard motor made that has a jet type thrust, as VS a prop. Was watching an Alaska show guy was putting a Johnson out board on his boat. Looked like no prop, had a big square ribbed dealey on bottom, and looked like a nozzle looking thing where the prop should be. Guessing they make these for shallow river applications ? So your not constantly bending props. Is a prop better in open water? Or is jet just so expensive to only pay for it if your application calls for it.

Not sure what you are looking for?... lots of jet drives for correct application. Check out Vanguard outboards. Jet drives good for shallow or deep water just not as effcient as prop drives. I would not have anything to do with them unless I had to due to the specific boating application.

not sure if the show you seen what the |the LAST ALASKANS"
but if so, he later on showed how he sucked up a rock in the intake on the motor jets
SO< yes he had a jet drive outboard, they prefer them due to there less likely to get damaged in shallow waters or rocks like a prop, when living off grid as many there due on the rivers
Both have pro's and con's , props tend to need deeper water to work in! But its easier to replace a prop at times IF you have a spare!
