Not Just a Spun Ring This Time - Looking for Advice

I have a 2003 Skidoo Grand Tour 500 Sport. I have done a few top ends due to spun rings (the single ring design) and I thought that was all I had this time. What I found is a scortched (melted Piston) or at least that is what I think it looks like. It looks like the cylinder was running lean. I have attached pictures and would greatly appreciate any input. I will be able to take care of this but I think I have bigger problems. I cannot spin the crank. I can rotate back and forth about 1/12 of a full rotation so there is obviously something in the way. Any thoughts on this? My son was driving when he heard that low bogging sound that you get when you lose compression and immediately shut it down. Any input would be very helpful.

On this machine I have had the ring spin twice when the small pin that prevents it from Spinning breaks. This single ring design is one of the few weaknesses in this engine. I have a second sled exactly the same as this one and have had the same thing happen twice. The first time was lucky but the second time (two years ago) it led to a total destruction of the motor before it was shut down (i.e. piston in pieces, broken piston arm, etc). I am looking for a rebuild for that machine. Looking back I should have just planned going a top end rebuild every 3000 miles.

They are oil injected and I agree it looks like something got plugged up on that cylinder and it ran lean. The sleds have just over 10k miles each. They have been good machines and the chassis and everything else is in great condition. These sleds have never sat out overnight even once exposed and have been trailer stored every summer so they are worth putting a little money in to keep them going. I will be looking to sell both of them this summer to look for something newer. We have owned these since new. I am a fairly good mechanic but have never been deeper into a two stroke Rotax engine than a top end. In looking at the factory manual it looks like you need a lot of special tools to do a complete rebuild. Tools I do not have.

Looks like carb issue on one side. Jug looks destroyed. You must have a piece of shrapnel down in the crank somewhere that won't let you turn the engine. Time to look for a new used motor. Big bucks to fix that one. You mentioned you were looking to update. I think the decision has been made for you. Try parting out your 2 sleds. If the rest of the sleds are nice you might make a little money that way. For what you would spend to fix these two you will never sell them and come out. To many miles and too old. If you got a total of 20000 miles out of these two they don't owe you anything. You got your money out of them.

Well the decision is made. Not worth fixing as both need rebuilds plus the family is not so into the sport anymore. I do not hove time to part them out so need to figure out what the are worth as is. They are in great shape otherwise.
